Hi,

I've successfully registered LGVID.AX and installed and registered ffdshow but the intro video still doesn't play. I'm currently running windows 7 64 bit. I do not get any error messages. Please let me know if anyone has another work around.

Ah yes same problem as me, glad I'm not the only one. Could the videos be re-encoded perhaps?

Try the 32 bit version of FFDShow, System Shock 2 is a 32 bit application and so won't work with the 64 bit one.

I did test it, it also says clearly on the FFDShow website to get the 32 bit version unless you are explicitly using a 64 bit player.

Point is that when you say something that contradicts a forum admin who's been troubleshooting this game for a decade + with other users, you'd better be damn sure of yourself because otherwise you become a source of misinformation, which is detrimental to anyone who comes along looking for answers and who doesn't know any better.  If you have a theory, deliver it as such, with appropriate disclaimers and it won't get confused with something taken verbatim from this forum's help repository.

Well, System Shock is not a 64 bit game, install the 64 bit version of FFDShow then try to use any 32 bit media player with it, it will not work. I am not interested in starting flame wars or whatever I have presented the evidence and I am certain of what I say, if Kolya has it working somehow with the 64 bit FFDShow version I don't understand how that can possibly be. Regardless, for general use most users should install the 32 bit FFDShow not the 64 bit one and FFDShow 32 bit will work with System Shock 2 on 64 bit Windows.

You said here that you concluded it. And nothing in that thread suggests that you got your own cutscenes working with ffdshow 32bit. Instead you say there that you got them working on a clean system without any ffdshow installed. As the video guide says, registering the codec is all that's needed in many cases.
 
The cutscenes problem has changed a few times because of the inconsistent way in which MS included the Indeo codec (or didn't) and then crippled it and also because of the inconsistent Indeo 5 support from ffdshow. So I'm not saying the video guide held any eternal truths about it. However last time I installed SS2 about 3 months ago, it didn't work without ffdshow, nor with the 32bit version, but with the 64bit version.
If you have actually gotten your videos to work with 32bit ffdshow by now (and they crash without it on your system) then by all means, say so. This site wouldn't be where it is, if we didn't learn from each other.

Really can't wrap my head around how that's possible. May I humbly suggest that we at least make people aware that if you have 64 bit ffdshow on your system then most other software that uses or relies on ffdshow is going to break/won't be able to find ffdshow at all.

Nonsense, the 32bit and 64bit versions of ffdshow can coexist without a problem.

MY problem is that when I try to play the cutscenes, the game just quits by itself. I've got them to work before, but I don't know what the problem is this time. O_o

I got hold of the game today, followed all of the instructions on the website, everything appears to be working fine (I looked into the getting videos to work thread before loading up, downloaded ffdshow and disabled all of the codecs related to Indeo). However I then stopped for lunch and shut down my computer, I came back and none of the cutscenes were loading, it was as if they'd been disabled or deleted. There would be an extremely brief black screen then gameplay would resume.

I reinstalled the game completely, started a new game and the cutscenes were working fine again, however when I restarted again the cutscenes wouldn't work again. Has this problem been fixed before? I'm on a Windows 7 64bit system.

Well would you look at that, looked at another post and the answer was right there. Running the game as administrator sorts it right out.
