Man I finally got to try this out. I read that the project is still up and running. Last update september 22. Just read something about getting it to run on Fedora.

Seems like I have no time to learn a complicated game like this one looks like at the moment. So I recommend people trying it for themselves. I can remember times when I searched for a game like that and didn't find anything. I just want to share it, because maybe there are others that really liked the Master of Orion series but wanted some new things/game.
From the looks of it alone I would recommend TO TRY it. Have fun!

I added a bit more info, but before I move this to Free Games, you need to tell us if it's any good, because it's supposed to be a collection of recommended free games. :)

I guess most of you have played or at least heard of the turn based "Master of Orion 2".
I have now found something called "Free Orion". Here a quote from their sourceforge Page: http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeorion/
FreeOrion is a free, open source, turn-based space empire and galactic conquest (4X) computer game being designed and built by the FreeOrion project. FreeOrion is inspired by the tradition of the Master of Orion games, but is not a clone or remake of that series or any other game.

Sadly I haven't found the time to read the tutorials of how it is played, but from the looks it seems okay and the Project seems running. Last update just a month ago, so it seems to be still on the move, which is great to have a game that lives on and adapts, sadly unlike MoO2. Errors and omissions excepted.
If MoO2 interested you, you might give it a try and convince someone else about it. Maybe I will test it too anytime soon.

(to be moved to "Free Games" Section by a Mod please) Edit: Thanks!
