Rise from your grave!
I've looked into this again, and in September 2016 N++ was released on various platforms including steam.
I didn't try it out in comparison to N, but some of you might.

N++ is the last, and the best in the series. N++ was written from the ground up to be a bigger, better, more fully-featured version of N, with everything N has, plus plus. It's as smooth as butter and twice as delicious.

Cool! Thank you for the heads up, downloading now. Since I'm restricted to a netbook on my holidays this comes at the right time. :D

Very fun game. Incredibly hard too.
It seems there is a new version called Nv2 that came in May 2013 (2005 it was 1.4). Changelog contains some quality of life fixes and also a 2 player local coop! Sounds hot!

Probably the longest and hardest game ever created. Contains 495 hand-crafted levels and is 1,5 mb big. To complete it will take ~1 year and you will die ~15 000 times (i'm serious, that's how much it took me to complete it). It's available for PC(Windows,Linux),Mac,XBOX 360,DS and PSP (the console versions are called N+ and are a bit diffrent). The physics are accurate, you don't have to be a SMB master to learn. There is also an highscore for all the world, but if you want to get into the top 20 of a level, you will have to learn techniques to pass the level faster and collect more gold.
