voodoo47You know what? I've known these games for years, but it never occurred to me that the "Dark" part in the engine's name partially stood for that. And for Dark Camelot. It's weird how our brains work sometimes...

Or because it was originally created for Dark Camelot.

it's probably called the DARK Engine for a reason.

I've just finished playing this FM myself. Surely I can't be the only one who felt like these levels were strongly inspired by the "Rest and Relaxation" mission in the first NOLF? That definitely made me enjoy this FM even more than what I would otherwise have already done.

I couldn't help noticing how strongly the engine seems to be built around rendering nighttime environments (as in Thief) or artificially illuminated spaceship corridors. While the mapping was, as usual, stellar, the lighting always felt somewhat odd, as if there were no actual sun illuminating the levels even when it was meant to be daytime. I'm not complaining, of course - I merely found this to be an interesting detail.

Finally, I found this FM to be pretty tough. Of course, stubbornly insisting on playing this on Impossible can't have helped. Still, I kind of liked being forced to play tactically, suddenly unloading my Uzi while peeking around a corner.

Just finished all 4 of Christine FMs (including this one), and I must say - good job! The feels are really similar to the original System Shock 2, even though I can see Christine do have some "preferences" in map layouts - they feel like Christine signature xD

Anyway, System Shock 2 is the only game so far I STILL jump because of the "crawling fear" and uneasiness being in the environments, and somehow Christine managed to reproduce it in her FMs as well.

...Well this one is a bit different from the other ones, although I really liked the overall style. I'd actually like to see more of FMs with "earthly politics" a bit like this one. Feels a bit like James Bond xD He also likes Carribean-styled islands, where something... Is going on behind the curtain xD

is this a support request? one way or another, putting together an oldDark build that would run FMs is probably not too easy nowadays, and shouldn't be attempted unless you are an advanced user looking for something very particular.

Hello, Now I reached the final part of the campaign - time for Holiday. Unfortunately you can't play this mission without new dark, just for information: When you enter the visitor centre after u arrive with the shuttle, you can explore the surroundings. But you don't get to the next part of the mission, you can't enter doors and outside in the green there are visible blocking walls.

After installing new dark with this fm everything runs fine.

post a save, should be a quick fix.

Here it is, its when you frob the computer terminal the additional objective has no description.  For some reason the 'M' only objective error was fixed when I restarted the FM.

edit: oops, I didn't give all the needed data to open the save, I just reuploaded the correct data for the save.

Late to the party..again.  Professional quality FM.

My only discrepancy that I see is the notes seem kind of bugged (one objective just says 'M' and another has no description at all).  But other than that, professional quality and fun FM.

I personally admired the James-bondish feel of the goon-outfitted clones in the underwater lab.  :sly:

Not anymore! Thanks to the update. Had (foolishly) assumed it was a full FM updated version and not actually installed Christine's original. THEN (foolishly!) didn't even try it in SP.

That's what ya get for trying new content after being awake 32 hours. =/

Cheers.

SS2_LarkSS_Urlaub_NewDark-Addons.7z
NewDark lightmaps, updated NVScript, glass door materials, and fm.cfg with "fm_no_shock_om_patching" preset.

Update: Edited the loading screen graphic to fix the cut-off load bar issue.

No. I use the codecs for too many things to want to uninstall it any time I wanted to play one of Christine's mods even if it did remedy the problem.

( possibility that would fix it though seeing as the vids play fine on my little brother's computer which has no external codecs installed besides any that came with WMP and that SS2 installed )

Have you tried it without K-Lite installed?
Posted by: LarkSS
« on: 30. October 2009, 00:54:48 »

Man, I can play any other System Shock 2 video except for the ones that comes from Christine's campaigns. Trying to install the codecs from the SS2 disc simply say I already have them installed, and I have the k-lite mega codec pack installed which I believe should have contained a codec to be able to play these vids. =/

Ok, installed, got it running, the video played showing the ship picking the soldier up, but once planet side, nothing else happens. Any ideas?

Have a nice holiday V2 is released. I added new custom objects, AIs and multiplayer models.
I had to add a small startlevel to make it multiplayer ready.
please note: the stiff brush can now be equip with "1", pressing "2" switch between pistol and uzi.

You can take a look at some Screenshots here: Have a nice Holiday V2

Special thanks to Greenhorn, NamelessVoice and Nightwalker for their help.

You can download it here: Filefront.

I hope you'll like it :)

I knew I missed something that would make it easier. :D Where was I supposed to find it? Nevertheless brooming droids and backstepping assassins was much more fun I belive. ;)

I guess the slowdown is caused by CPU processing methods which is not much legacy compatibile. Damn Intel.

« on: 15. June 2008, 14:07:14 »

Did you find the Uzi?

Sorry, I can't help you with slowdowns, I didn't have any problems with it. But my computer is older, no dual core...  (I'm able to play Doom3 with low settings and often restart...  :p)

I've played through this and I must say it was weird and funny. Possible SPOILERS ahead.
The hardest part was when entering mansion... pistol ammo depleted, psi power depleted, health depleted and now whoa.. droids everywhere with some occasional and pretty deadly assassins. My mighty broom was the only saviour I could rely on (engine bugs too but that is considered my skills :P). And we did it. Along my quest I was able to gather over 100 bullets that did not fit in my pistol. Was that a teasing joke or was I missing some great gun there? Same goes for rifle slugs.
Anyway the outro got me completely. :D
This means I'm gonna play all Christine's previous FMs..looks really promising.

This is my first FM to try out. Seriously. Pretty harder than it seems at the beginning.

I've got a problem..not really related strictly to this FM but hey... in these missions it's unbearable! I'm getting very low performance. Sometimes it's 8 fps when having the whole beach in view or so. In original campaing it happened only when I was looking at the new hi-poly goo that's part of SHTUP but it went down only to 20 fps, that's definitely better than 8.
I remember playing on older comp with older graphic card and the goo was not causing such a drop. Now that I have Intel Core Duo 2,4 Mhz with ATI Radeon HD2600 XT 512 MB I can play Crysis on High but SS2 is causing problems. It does not help much to turn off AA and AF.

I wonder if someone has similar experiences or know about a way to boost the performance with newer setup. It seems really strange to me.
I have AMD Athlon 64 X2(2.9 Ghz),Sapphire HD2600 XT and I have no problem with the goo.Perhaps It's your intel :D

This is Christine's 4th installment of a her fan missions campaign. It's not a typical SS2 campaign, but a "Funmission", so don't take it too seriously. You are on vacation. There are no keycards, codes, security cams or respawns, and sometimes sneaking may be better than fighting ... (As discussed on TTLG here and then here)

Special leave in the Caribbean - I should feel honored and in fact it's very idyllic. I've spent four days doing nothing but sunbathing, sleeping and swimming and now I've had enough. I don't even get the news here. The damn nostalgic radio station only plays South Seas music. If I hear even one more chord played on a Hawaiian guitar, I'll lose it! Man, there's absolutely nothing going around here!! The UNN might as well have put me into solitary confinement. At least there I could have a chat with the guards. I still have three and a half weeks of special leave ahead of me. How do I get through that without dying of boredom? I'd rather fight a horde of ice monsters than stay here. At least I have some experience at that...
Tomorrow I'll do some diving. I think I saw a dorsal fin in the waves. A shark, maybe? THAT would be a diversion...
