You've never noticed how the player poses when the laser rapier is equipped?

That really irked me on my play through. Why in the world would they put the laser so close to the players fingers. Gah.

It's a shrug-and-wait-another-year kind of situation for me. My current rig couldn't run it and I have put my system building plans on hiatus for the moment. The current Intel-CPU generation sucks, AMD's current gen is expensive and/or even hard to obtain while they themselves artificially drive up the prices for their last gen - just like the more worthwhile Nvidia RTX graphic cards. Both, AMD and Nvidia will launch new generations next year. I've decided to wait and see how those turn out. Just like I did when the RTX4xxxs were released. They can go fuck themselves for a little bit longer, I guess - just like the games industry.

someone also broke down how A-Life 2.0 works, i think it was on reddit, he looked at the code, his conclusion is that it's a very, very basic spawner.

no idea if that's true or not but it would absolutely not surprise me the least if it's a last seconds(well, days, week, whatever) work to get the game out, but that they also plan on doing something better with it. Of course their answer will never be "we did it in the last second" they have advertised the game with A-Life 2.0, so the system must be called this, no matter if its ultra basic.  "Broken" is the way they would portray it, if its not in..

Apparently A-Life is in there, just broken, as a RPS article here discusses.

disappointed that they never did the A-Life 2.0 stuff they used to hype the game up with, it's just a basic spawner which seems like something they made in the last minutes since obviously the game needs enemies/mutants. they even removed A-Life 2.0 from the Steam page (and all other pages) like the day before release.

This is pretty rotten imo. Not that you would expect anything else from game devs though, this scummy behavior is a standard practice almost, Bethesda has done this a few times too. "oh look at the cool dynamic shadows we have for this game", "oh look at this super advanced AI we have for you" to then not include it. CDPR are absolute scum too when it comes to this.

hover-fingers?

Is that where the character holds a melee weapon in one hand while having a "floating" empty hand on the left that just sort of sits there doing nothing?

And cringelord melee weapon hover-fingers.

I'm also in the "hands and stuff can add flavour" camp. As long as we don't have SS Remake-style repeated canned animations.

I'm fine with first-person hands and feet as long as their animations follow what I'm doing rather than dictating it.

reminds me of quicktime events, and I don't like those very much. but yeah, this is personal preference of someone who comes from the times of Half-Life.

graphics look ok, how would I put it.. not overdone? I actually prefer that.

I love it, when they have well done and varied animations for your avatars' actions. One of the better examples (in that regard) would be Far Cry 2 for me.

hmm, checked a few streams for a bit, not liking that some world interactions are basically animations seeing the player character's hands actually doing the thing (like climbing a ladder).

a true first person experience is a disembodied experience (as far as I'm concerned).

Buggy and unoptimized is the authentic S.T.A.L.K.E.R. experience, after all.

Pretty sure that the vast majority of costumers would've understood and agreed. But most likely some sales suits and/or Microsoft (or whoever has stakes and influence in it) didn't because they saw christmas business approach and a lot of people looking to upgrade their systems at the moment. Even if they claimed otherwise. I would be surprised if there wasn't some corporate wankery at the root of it. As it always is.

As tragic as the real-life situation is, you can't overlook issues with quality due to external circumstances. If they needed more time to iron out bugs/gameplay, I'm sure people would have understood if they delayed it further.

Which given the real life circumstances with the developer, can totally give them slack for it.

the first three games I liked, but I have to admit they are utterly useless without mods. looks like history may indeed repeat itself.

Read one review from PCGamer. Might want to hold off until the bugs are quashed.

FYI: Today is release day!

Now  all I need is a PC that can handle it properly. Haven't read any reviews yet but I guess giving them some extra time to iron out the kinks is a not a bad idea anyway. Especially looking at you, Stalker 1, but also pretty much everything else that has been released those past few years.

Edit: Yep, seems to be very buggy still. Not surprised, not overly afraid.
Edit 2: Hm, signficant design-related criticism too. Still hopeful. They say it has mod-support.
Edit 3: History Repeating

The fact that a solid chunk of the game was developed, despite the on-going invasion of their country going in is astounding. I know that development was later moved to the Czech republic, but still. Props to the devs for their dedication.

no stop signs as far as humor is concerned. remember the Rule of threes - three minutes without oxygen, three days without water, three weeks without food. and three seconds without humor.

Well, the combat looks beyond terrible in that trailer. I'm hoping that it was only toned down to be so easy for the presentation.

Are there other uncompromisingly bleak and incomparably atmospheric Eastern European sandbox shooters or is this just badly worded?

Probably not but I'm a fan of that genre anyway.

The author may be or may not be referring to Survarium, Escape from Tarkov or DayZ though.

RPS: "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is in development, but not due until 2021"

Good news for fans of uncompromisingly bleak and incomparably atmospheric Eastern European sandbox shooters: an official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. sequel is on the way, original devs GSC Game World have confirmed.

The less-good news is that we’re all going to have to continue playing mods for the original games for a while yet. According to the announcement, the game isn’t due until 2021.

It's not much but I'm happy to hear it!
