It is actually quite similar to MM with a hint of Slicks'n'Slide; just add bystanders that might get caught in the crossfire, some dirty tricks, spiked bumpers, mines, nitro gas, sabotage, assassinations, steroid runs et cetera... It's all about either placing high enough to get cash for the mandatory repairs or being the last four-wheeler still intact while all the others burn. Also important: not getting the finger from your sponsor, raising enough cash for a better car, upgrades and getting a better ranking by winning races. Be the top dog, and you get to try your skills against The Adversary, bearing an uncanny resemblance to The Stig. :)

The driving model's completely unrealistic, but it doesn't matter in the least. Also, crank the difficulty level up to max and it's still a challenging game to beat. I played it through a few times a couple of months ago with the win port, still a simple but an entertaining game to pour hours into if that's your sort of thing.

Oh okay, I changed the first post to show that video then. Looks like a fun game, I'll try sometime. Reminds me of MicroMachines.

Much obliged.

The video is from Remedy's new Apple release, the 1996 original isa a bit less refined in the looks department.

Since OMF2097 was listed here, I thought to post another win-port of a game I had more than a few spins with around the same time:

Death Rally - An old Finnish classic; despite its simplicity, I've had a hell of a lot of fun with this one.

Death in the Fast Lane.

In late 1996 this top-down racing game took all by surprise with it's addictive nature and excellent gameplay.

The basic idea behind Death Rally: win races, gather more money, buy upgrades to your vehicle. In between wreck your opponents, shoot your way through bystanders and keep the pedal to the metal!

In 2009, Remedy was proud to announce the free re-release, Death Rally for Windows. The original game, ported to run on modern PCs. Please read the readme in the installation package for more information.
