I change the file extension from .zip or .rar to .ss2mod and I click on the file but it doesn't work
what could I do?

In the modmanager's options rebind the filetype to the manager. If that doesn't work you probably have windows set to hide known file extensions See instructions here.

well if you have your problems you can always open Mod Manager and load the mod file manually via menu.  :rolleyesgreen:

First, you need to have file extensions enabled.
In any folder open in Windows Explorer, go to the Tools menu, Folder Options. Switch to the view tab, and untick 'Hide extensions for known file types."

Then just rename the file and change the extension.

But it doesnt work... i open the Modmanager and it freezes...

I don't quite get what the problem was in the first place. You uninstalled SS2 and then your mods stopped working, you said. Without SS2??
Anyway, don't worry about the Modmanager. Just delete the folder.

Wow, That was a stupid moment.

I have a possibly stupid question. Where exactly to you install the mod manager? Does it have to be extracted in the game directory ? In a folder inside the game dir? anywhere you want? there isn't any info at all about installation.

there isn't any info at all about installation.
Except for the line: "Select a SS2 installation where you want to use SS2 Modmanager" right above the path selection box.
In other words: Install right into your SS2 directory.

It might be best to extract archive to temporary folder and then launch executable to initiate installation process.

Thanks a lot for the info. As I understand running the exe from the zip archive installs modmanager into the game dir so it's probably better to first extract it into a temp folder and then run the exe.
66f936b575778
It's just generally better to extract the archive so the installer will have all it's resources ready. This has nothing to do with the install path. You should install the Modmanager to your SS2 folder in any case.
Since this seems to be your first day on a computer...

1. Create a folder called "temp" on your desktop.
2. Extract the downloaded archive into that folder.
3. Start ss2mm.exe
4. Install into your SS2 directory

Okay, a friend of mine has run into an issue with the Modmanager installation.

I was trying to walk him through the installation, but he must have extracted the archive incorrectly.  The first time, when he tried installing it using the ss2mm.exe that runs the setup, it didn't have all the resource files at hand (specifically unrar.dll) and so the installation was aborted.  Afterwards, when he finally got the archive extracted in the same place, he tried running the setup executable again, only to be told that he had to uninstall the previous version of Modmanager.  Since the previous installation never finished correctly, it's impossible to uninstall the previous version, because he can't even run Modmanager to select the uninstall option!

This has left him with a broken Modmanager installation and the inability to do a fresh install of Modmanager.  I don't know what to do to remedy this, and I don't want to tell him he has to uninstall and reinstall SS2 itself.  What exactly does the setup program check for when it gives the warning that the previous version must be uninstalled?  (Also, why do both the setup and the actual Modmanager executable have the same name ss2mm.exe?  I got the two confused when I was checking my directories.)

Try deleting the SS2MM dir in the game install folder. Then reinstall.

He did that, and it still didn't work.  Sorry, should have mentioned that earlier.  We tried a bunch of things and the setup kept detecting the previous installation.

At this point it might be moot though, since he's using the HOTU version and something screwed up in his main installation.  The game locks up right after loading the Earth level, which did not happen when the sound was disabled (don't ask).  I'm probably going to have to tell him to uninstall and reinstall fresh.  I have no familiarity with the HOTU version since I own the original CD version.

One of the links doesn't work atm, it will come back this week. The other link (attachment) works fine. Please use this instead.

The differences of the retail and HOTU version are listed here.

Hi all!
I'm having the same problem Silencer's friend has. I installed SS2 and ModManager and it worked fine, but I had to uninstall the game. I did it and then I simply deleted the folder with ss2mod. Now I have reinstalled the game, installed the tools, but I'm not able to install ModManager anymore. Everytime I start it it says that I have to delete previous installation before I proceed. I deleted all the ss2mod files and ran Ccleaner and Free Windows Registry Repair to delete all the entries related to this software but still had no luck. Any idea how could I fix this?
Thanks in advance :-)
