unit63 : What OS are you running?

Gesu`, Silencer150 : Remove ss2mm.exe in your SS2MM installation folder and then reinstall. There is high change that you need to reinstall whole game, too.

i have a problem - when i open up ss2mm.exe, it asks me where i want to install it - i click on browse and go to my system shock program folder, but the browse window just keeps saying 'open' in the bottom right hand corner, so i never get to the point where it says 'save' or whatever

what's going wrong?

You are supposed to select shock2.exe-file in your System Shock 2 - game folder and then press Open-button. There is no Save-button.

Hiya,

I tried to install the ModManager, and the installation works just fine, but when I try to start the program, XP gives me the normal "Application has encountered an error and must be closed" -message. All I'm left with is the possibility to choose whether or not to send an error report to Microsoft ^^.

Darn.

Any known issues with non-English OS's or SP3? :)

I've now tried to remove the modmanager folder a couple of times, re-install it a couple of times and I've downloaded the archive again just to be on the safe side, but to no avail. :p

Huh, that is strange. Are you using latest version of mod manager? And tried running it at Admin rights?

It's possible that XP SP3 could cause that problem to occur. I can only say it works in Finnish version of Windows 2000 with SP4 installed, so not working in non-English versions is probably debatable but not impossible at all.

What language are you using with your OS?

If you can, could you revert back to SP2? I would like to know if that solves this problem.

Click on Start button and choose Run. In opening dialog paste this line:
Code: [Select]
%SystemRoot%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s
That command should open Event Viewer. In there click on Application or System and search for all references to ss2mm.exe. If you found something then put it in this thread.

Yep, tried running the latest version. And reverting back to SP2 would be upractical, but it's impossible on this rig as well. A sysprepped pre-installation of me' own. I could re-install everything on an SP2 -getup, but a rerun of SS2 doesn't mean that much to me, sorry. :) Would be nice to give it a go with all the mods, though.

I'm using a Finnish OS.

I can translate the words if you need 'em, but I think they're pretty generic and at the same places as in an English Os. You know the drill. :) Osoite = Address, that might be a tad more tricky, though. Kick me if you need the binary tables. :p

In any case, the ModManager would've been a nice asset, but luckily it's not mandatory. I had time today to go through the mods manually and install them by hand, and all I can say is holy... great work, all around. :) And still runs fine on my T42 ThinkPad with the new bells and whistles. :)

CodSlap : I have uploaded older version (0.0.3.39) of mod manager in to first post. Could you download it and try if that works in your system?

...  Kick me if you need the binary tables. :p

Sure, I would like have them.  Just put them into archive and upload somewhere on the 'Net and give link to this thread, so I can get my hands on that archive.

My life's a tad hectic atm, but I'll give the earlier version a go a tad later on, I think I'll need to do a fresh install of SS2 at some point anyhow.

Here's the manual dump from DrWatson: http://koti.mbnet.fi/cijk/ss2mm.txt

Yarr, couldn't resist the temptation: And what do you know, the earlier version works like a charm. Thanks! :)

I had the same problem as Codslap with the latest build 0.0.4.2 and I am running XP SP2 on an English language system (although have Chinese mandarin language support installed).  I reckon I got the same error message as he posted (at least sure looks similiar as the one I got last night).

The older build worked fine for me.

Thanks to all on this site for making installing SS2 a relatively painless task.

Well, that could be one common factor, then? My installations of me' laptop come with all the additional language support that XP offers, basically meaning those 200+ megs of installation material that you have to tick to activate during the original installation.

They require some files to run in the background which aren't required in average XP use, maybe the newer version somehow conflicts with those, assuming, of course, that the mandarin chinese supports utilises the same files. :p

Me' compliments as well, looks naissssssss with the new bells and whistles. :)

The older build worked fine for me.

I'm running a german XP SP3, and with me, the latest build just sends dr. watson, while the older build works at the start.

Later on I get that famous black screen, though.

Just for information :

I'm using french XP pro SP2 and modmanager 0.0.4.2 don't work too.

No problem with 0.0.3.39.

Thanks for this great tool  :thumbwink:

Like slim, I am using XP Home SP2, English language, SS2 CD install patched to 2.23 (using SS2Tool 2.4), SS2MM ver. 0.0.4.2. Install went fine, but launching SS2MM.exe causes a Windows error message. I'll try the older version.

I'll try the older version.

Success. I deleted the SS2MM folder, then installed version 0.0.3.39, and it works. No automatic fix of the use/shoot binds issue though -- guess I'll have to do that manually.  BTW I don't believe I have any foreign language support installed, so I think that might be a dead end.

You (and others) might want to check this link out : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/prodtech/windowsxp/depcnfxp.mspx.

I'm starting to think that DEP (Data Execution Prevention) included in Windows XP is causing errors in latest version (0.0.4.2) of mod manager. In Windows 2000 with SP4 it starts and works perfectly.

hi!

first of all thanks for all your great work!

im on vista x64 (SP1) and am having the same problem as others with version 0.0.4.2 of SS2 Modmanager. it crashes with the following application error:

"Exception EAccessViolation in module ss2mm.exe at 0009FF3D.
Access violation at address 0049FF3D in module 'ss2mm.exe'. Read of
address 00000000."

i have also tried switching the Data Execution Prevention to:
"Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select"
..as suggested by The Brain but the problem persists.

version 0.0.3.39 works without a flaw.
