Yes, that one is particularly bad. I remember googling for worms to get some kind of idea how to animate it and do a better version, i even did one version (which was absolutely awful, and not in the good way). Might look into it again.

I feel like a smooth "breathing" effect would end up being the best way to do that texture.

I think the best solution would be to make a very slow looping circuit-like animation.

I would recommend a slightly less phallic design though - giving them rings as on the original animation should accomplish this.

No, it isn't high-res. That's why we're talking about making it high-res. It's only 128x128.
Well, compared to other goo textures, it actually is high-res, see for example the goop animation (64x64). At least you can actually see that it's worms and not brown mustard jelly or whatever that's supposed to be. And while the worm pile is relatively small ingame, the goo get's blown up to ridiculous proportions making it look even worse.

If by some freak stroke of fate modders could only ever update one single texture in the game, it should be the horrible cutlery. Compared to that one, the worm pile looks like the Mona Lisa.

Something that always bothered me about these worms is the question how they even attack a wake person. The game Another World provided an excellent mini-cutscene to show this.

Oh you're speaking of a true masterpiece here!

almost forgot - there is also an annelid wall pod/egg that could use upgrading, for the sake of consistency.

Ok i'll take a look at those.

A save where you can see them in-game would be quite helpful :)

fugly alert on the blue nerve. vurt to the rescue? :headshot:

the model name is NerveST, the offending texture(s) DEND_.PCX - DEND_4.PCX (obj.crf).

Yeah that whole area could need better textures actually. It's too bad they didnt care about making the textures seamless.. I gave it a try some time ago and it looks worse with hi-res textures because all the seams becomes very obvious. When completely blurry you don't see it as much. But yes i could give that mesh a try maybe :)

That dendrite texture has tasked me for years. It seems like the sort of thing that would take actual artistic talent to reproduce at higher res.
6741b4df814e1
just to animate it "properly" would be a huge task..

well, from my point of view, any new dendrite texture would be an improvement - the old one is so bad, I would even consider removing it completely until a suitable replacement can be found/created.
