So I want to play System Shock 2 again, it was many many many years ago and I want the best experience. I have tried to look around here but I don't really see any "starterguide" on how to get on with this modding and what modds are recommended to use? What are the essential ones that I should get? Is there some kind of list of mods or do you just have to search around?

yeah, about that.. things are currently a bit messy, hopefully we'll have an "easy starter pack" available here in the (near?) future. check this topic, that should give you an idea.

anyway, I wouldn't start SS2 without these:
SHTUP
Rebirth
Tacticool Weapons
Eldron Psi Amp
Vurt's Hi-Res Space Textures
SS2 earth dynamic sky

highly recommended are also:
ADaoB v0.3.0 (watch out, slight gameplay changes)
SHMUP
Vurt's mods
Four Hundred

all available here (most stickied).

Someone should really consider combining some of these mods. I finally finished adding the ones I liked and it was a lot of work. I guess it's much easier with the Mod Manager. I think I can do something like these but I might need permission to do something like this.

I finally finished adding the ones I liked and it was a lot of work.

1. All you had to do was download a few file archives and unpack them to the "DataPermanentMods" folder.
2. The mods you like aren't necessarily the same mods anyone else would have chosen.
3. The mods on this site are intentionally kept separate.

Still, it was a a lot of tedious work. And as soon as you have two incompatible mods you have to start again, even for a cigarette is the same process. It would be nice to have some sort of System Shock 2 on modern systems a la Morrowind Overhaul. Not only it would be easier to install for those who are not used to managing files. It's great to have them separated, but it will also be great to have some of them together in a way that the player can check and uncheck the mods he wants, this is great for old games such as this one, since it could attack new gamers, and revitalize the modding community.

good things come to those who wait.

//I really shouldn't be saying that as I personally don't believe it, but it sounds nice, and it's the only thing you can do anyway.
