Oh look lots of discussion in the Citadel....oh.  Just a bunch of off topic rambling.

ANYWAYS, figured out a way to make some interesting updated particle effects that still fit the style of the original while updting the look to be much improved from the original 16x16 sprites.  This for effects like gun impacts, muzzle bursts, damage effects, etc.

And I don't doubt that when you've finished Citadel, it wil be amazing, not just System Shock, but System Shock if the original's designers had made it with mid-2010 technology and experience.
Stop saying dumb things. A 2010 game would have exponentially more detailed environments than SS1 does. And y'know, it would have been created by a team of full-time professionals, not one dedicated modder in his spare time.

Particle Effects Testing, just a quick little gif.

Top Left: Sparq beam impact
Top Right: Security camera burst
Bottom Left: Sec 2 Bot rotary cannon muzzle burst
Bottom Right: Sec 2 Bot arm blasters muzzle burst

{alt}

These use the Unity 5.5 particle system.  Please note that a portion of some effects are randomized and in 3D space such as the bits on the camera burst.

Thanks! But it looks better not downsampled and compressed.

Some sound to support the new years eve vibes I get from this gif.

Hehe, these work nicely together.

The Sec 2 Bot arm blasters muzzle burst has a rather low res pixel frame. Intended?

The gif has some frames removed if thats what you mean.  The timing of them does feel a little wierd, might smooth it up a bit.

Sounds...like some work is getting done.

I think what Kolya is referring to is the sudden overly sharp pixelated edge.

I'm so glad this is alive, and hope it will come before the "official remake", I really want that old school feel.

*Dons tinfoil hat*

What if ND approached JJ with a contract to stall? ND won't interfere with Citadel providing JJ releases AFTER ReShock. And he's bound by NDA to not say anything to the fans about it as it'd be damaging for NDs rep.

Not a totally corrupt thing, and I'm thankful to ND for letting Citadel live. That's a real honorable thing to do, even if there were the existence of any such contract.
Just a hypothesis and food for thought, and I hope I'm not giving anyone any ideas here...

But seriously, once again, my respect to NightDive for not interfering with this project. You're definitely in my good books. Now release Turok 2 dammit!

Ahh, good catch.  That's where multiple sprites are overlapping each other.  Shouldn't be too hard to remedy.  Overall I do want some pixels but more so to convey crispness and hard edges, less so the jaggies.  If that makes sense.

When your sick is the best time to work on stuff (since your restricted to your room and can't move far) :p.

Had highly symptomatic flu a short while ago. Coding was the last thing on my mind. Wouldn't have been able to focus if I tried.
674214ce330d8
You could possibly separate audio from subtitle language and allow a mix of both.

Did I forget anything?  I'm sure I have.

Effect Volume? Or does it fall under Ambience?
And "Frob" is a rare term to use, more commonly it's called "use" in games.
674214ce33423
Why does it say 100 at message and music volume when the slider is not at 100%?

Did the SS1 font always look so dilated or is there some awkward anti-aliasing at work? Many signs and letters look heavily distorted and difficult to read, for example /, +, and g.

Good work, JJ.

Would like to see a couple specialized gameplay options (e.g grid inventory or text list classic) but that's a lot of work. Leave it to potential modders.

How'd you feel about a "quick pickup" option though?

In shock you must grab the item, then drag it over to your inventory. This simulates the act of picking up stuff and pocketing it (or whatever) quite nicely, in an abstract manner.
In shock 2 you simply right click and it goes right to your inventory, saving some hassle. You can then drag and drop via the inventory later if you decide. Both have pros and cons, but the Shock 2 standard is arguably better.
Toggle? There's space to fit one or two input-related checkboxes at the bottom of the input box/more space can be made by shifting elements from column a to column b.
