I've never modded SS2 by myself during the many years that I have had it, but recently I started playing again and on harder difficulties, I found that I have a tendancy to make "Stashes" of items in places I call "Safe rooms" I.E. Ones that have good cover for me to hide behind if I trigger an alarm. Problem is, when your stash gets fairly big and you're looking for one object in a huge messy pile it is terrible, so how can a complete newbie to ss2 Modding (Other than installing mods) complete the following question:

How can I mod SS2 to let me put items back onto Corpses, into crates, any object that has an inventory that you can browse and take out of.

As far as I know that's impossible due to limitations of the dark engine. Nameless can probably explain this better.

So it cannot be possible? Cause the fact that you can't place things from your inv into the world without them all flying off into the corners of the room is rather annoying, thus I'd like to be able to use store rooms.

I was looking into this same issue myself, just remember:

Anything is possible, you may half to run thirty supercomputers to make it work, but anything is possible. . .

Good luck with it!

I have no idea what to do to start this off :(

First you'll need thirty supercomputers....

Seriously, it's got nothing to do with computing power. It would need a change in the game engine. And I'm really not sure a hack that sophisticated is doable without the source.

One of NV's custom scripts (called NVPutIntoContainers, for some reason) will let items be put into containers. The inventory is limited to what is available 'on screen' though, and it would require adding the script to each and every level  and adding the script to the gamesys entries of each container you wanted to use.

Cool, we'll put it in next ADaoB if it works, no? It's using NVscript for all missions already.

EDIT:
I've tried to put NVPutIntoContainers script on Usable Container (-118) and Corpses (-379). Tested in those NVscript enchanted missions but no luck today.

Yeah, it doesn't seem to be working for me either.

The original thread that explained how to use NVPutIntoContainers is here.
I have the vague recollection that it was somehow buggy, though.  I think it might have been prone to crashing or objects disappearing if you stuffed too many things into a single container.  I know that I tried to add a workaround for this, but can't remember how successful it was.

Also, the script goes on the items you want to be able to place into containers, not the containers themselves.

Well if you have any luck let me know, because I'd love to tidy up my stashes! I've had to relocate my med sci stash several times now because it's become too big.
