Some of you might remember me from TTLG before I was "banned for shitting up the bioshock forum" which is apparently the definition used when idiots post garbage and you go all ZylonBane on them. 8) At any rate it hasn't deterred my SS1 fantasies. I'm currently in maquette construction class at the Art Institute of Tampa and I figured a great model would be the original humanoid mutant. The first project is a thumbnail, sort of a grapefruit sized head to get an idea of the direction you're taking.

The next project due in two weeks is a bust of the mutant. The class final at week 11 (nine weeks from now) is the full model with environment, so I'm going to attempt to recreate Citadel Station - at least one section of it. I intend on having one "ring" of lights from the octagonal corridors in the med level, complete with blood on the walls, modeled tile with lights and flickering along with some melting by my soldering iron to create explosion damage. This is all done in Sculpey clay, btw, except for the environment which will probably end up being a form of dense styrofoam I'll have to Dremel out and carve by hand.

Let me know what you think.

/edit

I also need help - I need SS1 enemy sprites with the full turnaround poses, attacks, etc... Especially of the humanoid mutant. I need to create a model sheet and sketching from that little pixelated image will help a lot.

Damn scary. It looks like you intend to recreate the hybrid faithfully but since they were so low res I'd suggest adding a few details, eg the big bright eyes don't work so well at this size I think. I like the bloody mouth. That really looks like he just had a snack.
And yeah I remember you from TTLG of course. Welcome.
Regarding enemy poses you can find a lot of them on Karen's SS1 page including walk/attack animations but no turnaround or backsides. It's trivial to extract them yourself though. See.

Thanks for the responses. I'd love to post it at TTLG but GBM's sort of an asshole. I'll look into the extraction, Koyla - thanks!

amazing what's possible with mere uh.. clay?
you're now going to work on environment right? that's what I'm looking forward to.

Those are really quite scary. And well done. I suppose this would be a good reference if anyone wanted to make a movie. Transforming these low res monsters into 3D isn't an easy task.
Also you get lots of nerd respect for doing them. ;)

The only environment I'm doing is a full figure, probably around 7 inches, with a very small section of the research level and an overhead light. Thanks for the comments, they're much appreciated. Could anyone do me a favor and get all of this posted on TTLG's SS1/2 discussion, and possibly get me unbanned so I can put more of my progress up?
