SS2Tool missing exe file

Hello everyone
I tried to install SS2Tool and everything went smooth, but the fact that ss2.exe was backed u, but the new file (shock2.exe) was not in the game folder. So the game may not start by any means
Any help appreciated, cheers

not quite sure what do you mean - shock2.exe is deprecated and SS2.exe should be used at all times.

so let me get this right - after patching up, there is absolutely no exe in your SS2 folder? what is your game source, GOG/steam, CD, or something else?

Absolutely correct. My game comes from steam, and it is not in program files folder, it has C:/SS2 folder
Just give me few mins Ill go to gaming PC, as I am on mac atm

can't think of anything but an antivirus blocking the new exe. try copying it back from the backup folder.

That may be an answer, however, my back up folder has the only old version, same as Steam.
It runs the game but after I start the game, the screen goes black. I can pop up ingame menu, but the viewport is black
As I do understand I need a new file that comes with SS tool, right?
I can disable antivirus and try to install the game from steam again, then make another copy, install ss tool and try again.
In the meanwhile could you please attach that exe file for me?

the steam version is actually up to date as far as the exe version is concerned (so you can use the steam exe). I'd try creating a clean steam install again, copying it outside the steam folder, and patching it up while antivirus is inactive.

But the actual exe that comes with sstool could be handy

the file is identical (the people putting together the steam patches and the tool are the same guys).

So I did the clean steam install, then make a copy and run sstool
Same as above
I may run steam game and load to Ramsey center
When I run patched game I do have a menu, I start the game and then the screen goes black (I do not see loading animation). I still may pop up menu though so it is not crash

ok, so the tool update process is failing for some reason (more files missing most likely, not just the exe), resulting in an incomplete game that is not working. lets wait for Kolya to check the log.

If you have Avast, they've upped the aggressiveness meter on that in recent months. It now flags any .exe file it does not recognize as a virus. A bit too hardcore if you ask me, but meh.

anyway, if loading mods is all you want to do, you actually can just add the modmanager to your steam install manually and load them - while not advisable under normal circumstances, the recommend mods should be safe to load even without the tool.

using the latest steam beta build of SS2 is higly recommended (opt into the steam beta, no password is required) in this case.

Yes, what I wanted, in fact, is that hi-res mod, high poly models (for NPC) and that mod with hi-res info panels. I was able to download all them some time ago. But now I cannot. Will try though, cheers for help!

Aight just followed advice, got all mods (hi res world textures, weapons and objects, new hi res panels, waters. goo and of course, eggs). Everything works perfectly. Was NewDark already added to steam build that way?

yes, as mentioned, everything is set up to work as painlessly as possible, no matter what method is used.
