well, feel free to work with the resources as you see fit - if the result is a working mod, we will put it up for download in the mods section as always.

I think the problem isn't that it isn't believeable to have such screens. I mean, we basically have them since years already, and the game is in the future.
I think it's more of a problem that it looks unfamiliar to some. And that makes it look not right.

been around for a while, this is the first time someone said "screens don't look right". it's something so odd to say that I actually misunderstood what is being requested at first.

I mean, cardboard cutout AIs sure, but screens?

Yeah, I can't help but to agree with you. Makes you think if they are satisfied with everything else.

I mean sure, I am working on this, but it is purely out of boredom (and I want to create something) and I wouldn't have even thought it was a problem if it wasn't requested.

Also, I don't think it has anything to do with how futuristic it is, or how believe or familiar it is. It is all about the engines limitations. Normally, you would be able to hide the fact that it is just a texture. But not with older games, where edges are sharp and transition between textures are way more noticeable. They just wont blend in together and looks a bit unconvincing, makes it obvious that it is just a texture.

By the way, it is kind of unrelated, but can anyone check the texture I attached? I am testing a new method of enhancing textures in higher resolutions and I would like to get some opinions if it works well or not.

It looked better before I saved and uploaded it. Sigh.

generally, the result of blowing a texture up using some sort of tool is not considered good enough - you want it to look good, you gotta put the effort in and recreate it from scratch.

I was just testing ESRGAN, which can accomplish some amazing results when it is done right, but I clearly didn't set it up right.

We already have an ESRGAN discussion going on here.

Oh, thank you, I must have missed that.

Finally I got home and took a few screenshots of what I have done so far, please check it out and let me know what you think:

I am also adding the textures I edited, just in case if anyone wishes take a closer look at it. I am open to advise.

well, they accomplish what's advertised - they add a border to the screen, so anyone who would want that, will be able to have it. feel free to complete the mod.

no idea how good/bad is this going to look depending on what the texture of the underlying geometry is.

As anticipated, the glowing frames look odd.

ZB, sadly this is the best I can do at the moment. Also, it doesn't look that bad in the game. (In game, it is not exactly glowing, but it is a bit too bright, maybe a darker color would solve the issue)

Either way, since I can't solve the problems I am having, in the end it doesn't matter if it looks good or not. As I mention previously, some screens are tiled and not always in the same way, that means the method I used for these two screens wont work for each and every one of them. Another method should be used and I don't know how, which makes what I did until now pointless I suppose.

Wasn't there something in newdark where you can overlay a texture with another one?
I think there was a demo that came with newdark that added some gloss effect or something?

Sadly, I have no idea how to do that and it would probably take too long for me to learn. But it is nice to know that engine supports it at least. Meaning if someone wants to do it, they can.

The NewDark material system supports multiple render passes per texture (up to 6 I think). Each pass can specify a blend mode, and there's a variety of U/V animation options as well. That's how screens like this were done:

So, could you make, like a render pass with no lighting/illumination?

Oh, you've been smarter than me already.
