The high-pitched "ANIMAL" is very clear and distinct. The rest of it is just chopped-up gibberish.

Apparently we need a thread to settle this.

I mean it's like maybe there, but I had to gather all of my imagination (which is, admittedly, not a lot, but still) to sort of hear it.

also, it makes little sense for Shodan to semi-secretly call the player "animal" just once - she has names that are much lower on the evolutionary ladder reserved for him.

Yup, "animal" clearly audible. It's pitch-shifted much higher than the low-pitched gibberish, so it really stands out.

Shes's just saying gibberish. I don't hear any "animal" there. That's the same gibberish you'd hear towards to end of many of her logs and emails.

Here it is extracted from the three different WAV files it's used in, spliced together. It's clearly the same base speech clip each time, so anyone who can't hear it even in this one might want to schedule an appointment with an ear doctor.

I've had a listen and that's as much "animal" as it is "anybody", and that's only if you go in thinking that word in your head. Otherwise it's gibberish.

Well, I can hear the animal part. But I think it's kind of a deceptive thing. Like, if no one would have said that it says animal. I wouldn't have heard it.
It feels more like a coincidence that some noises cuddled together to form something similiar sounding.

to make things clear, I can say that after trying really hard, I definitely can identify the part that is supposed to say it, however, I still think it's just noise.

It's cool that you possibly found a word in this. But even if we could identify it without any doubt, it is meant to be unintelligible and therefore doesn't belong in the subs in my opinion.

It's like describing the tricks of the sound effects artist ("coconuts beaten together") instead of what it's meant to be in the movie ("horse ride"). That's not what subtitles are for.
