Topic: Games crashes after in game loading. Read 1611 times

I have recently installed SS2 on my XP machine and could not even get it to start. I solved the problem partially by using the ddfix tool which allowed me to start the game and watch the opening movie. The load window then pops up and proceeds to crash the game when it reaches 100% due to my 'Video Hardware' apparently not being supported by the game.

I've tried the 'safe_texture_manager', 'skip_starting_checks', 'SS2Tool 2.4' and 'Hardware 0' fixes and the only noticable difference is that with hardware set to 0 my game crashes for an unknown reason rather than due to the graphics card. I don't think this is because of the resolution because I also forced it into widescreen with an acceptable value.

I'm using XP Home, a 3.0 pentium 4 (single core obviously), and an ATI Radeon 9600.

Any ideas?

SS2 doesn't support widescreen afaik. You'll have to choose one of the basic 800x600, 1024x768, 1200x1600 in both ddfix.ini and cam.cfg

Oh whoops, I meant to say I forced it to use full screen, not wide screen. Hardware 0 makes the game run windowed.

Hardware 0 most importantly forces the game to run in software rendering mode. Which sucks big time. You probably wouldn't like it.

The Pentium 4 has hyperthreading which is similar to dual core. Tried the Hyper threading fix from the SS2 Tool?

I had this *exact* same problem (I'm excited because you're the first other person I've found who seems to have had the identical problem with identical system specs).  I solved it by starting up my computer in 800x600 resolution, and the game finally worked!  (After a week of trying various things).  You may be able to use other resolutions as well, I haven't checked.  But one way or another this is very good news.  Please tell me if this works for you.
