downloading stuff to check skirts. well, it's been a while..

//so basically they are changing the outfits to make Nemesis less cool (gave it an extra nose though, that has to count for something, right?), and Jill less hot. because you aren't supposed to play a game because of hot chicks and cool shit, I suppose?

Played it for half an hour. Horrible controls seem to be your main foe. I felt like I had one arm tied to my back playing this.
Also a handgun with little effect, linear gameplay that leads to tiny areas, loot arrows and a lot of graphical bugs. What's not to like?
Whenever a zombie grabbed me an icon showed me to use the left mouse button, which I did to no effect.

as I don't meet the minimum system requirements, I cheated it and just watched a LP instead, so can't comment on the controls.

one could try to make an argument that unwieldy controls are part of the original experience, but that's not an argument I'd recommend anyone to try to make, no matter the game. the handgun not being effective however is - you are not supposed to be able to blast your way through the enemies, just stagger and delay them so you could run past them.

funnily enough, I'm having the "a proper source port should have controls that don't make you want to cut your wrists" discussion at the NDS Doom64 source port Discord in this very moment - as it turns out, the port doesn't support full mouselook.

why.

6744f018e77ae
WHAT.

But the Doom 64 TC has all that. Why in the world would it not have mouse look?

6744f018e78c2voodoo47

6744f018e790b
"Vertical mouselook wasn't added because the game has visual level design and puzzle sequences that explicitly expect the player to not have vertical looking." - that actually is a valid argument. though I have to add that mouselook is something you can enable and disable at will in all the ports that exist as far as I'm aware - and even if it weren't, I much doubt it would break a puzzle in a way that would halt progress completely (it'd just make it easier, if anything). if they added an option to disable texture filtering for the pixel people (vanilla D64 is filtered), then I really don't see why they shouldn't add one for the mouselook guys.

anyway, the Kex team is now aware, and it's up to them whether the feature makes it in sometime in the future.

They just have to have mouse look. It'll cost them A LOT of sales otherwise, and be a worser game.

ah Bethesda.. the fun is just eternal.

but to be fair, it might have been a dev fed up with all the DRM bs - in that case, well played sir, you win the internet today.
6744f018e7d63
As a commenter on ars technica pointed out, the DRM free exe could also stop working after a while, thereby delaying actual cracks being created, which is really all that crack protection can hope to achieve.

do the numbers actually support the "staying uncracked for an extra week or two leads to increased sales" theory? I mean yeah, I remember the starforce times, and I agree that if the game isn't cracked after six months, some peg-leggers will cave in, but doubt that a handful of days will make a difference.

//half a dozen youtube videos later, hoo-boy, this one's a doozy. can't say I care for the first game, but I agree with those who do - sony's and/or naughty dog's head belongs on a pike, so every company/dev team out there will realize that doing that kind of shit will not stand.

//and more crap, a front company fraudulently striking youtube channels and claiming videos of people who dare to talk about the situation, thousands of fake five star reviews of the game even though it's not out yet, bs tweets of the voice actors and more.

I'm thinking the epicness of this shitstorm is going to be so monumental, it will erase the fail of Fallout76 right out of existence. and I have to admit that now that the stage has been set, I barely can wait for the moment everything hits the fan..

Bethesda are back on the case.

Today they released an update for Doom Eternal which makes it require Denuvo Anti-Cheat - a really dodgy piece of software which installs kernel-level drivers to monitor your PC activity (this is not the same thing as the far more benign Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM, which it always shipped with.)
It won't let you play the singleplayer campaign or even launch the game unless you install it.

This just a few days after the huge furore over similar software that Riot Games put into their new game, Valorant.

I'm rather annoyed, as I just bought the game a few days ago and now I can't continue playing because I don't want to install their dodgy software.

On top of that, they also released some new DLC maps... which can only be unlocked if you have a Twitch Prime subscription.  This after selling a Season Pass (for €30) which is supposed to give buyers all future DLC as it comes out, and also promising that the game would feature no microtransactions.

Edit: Looks like they backed down on the Twitch Prime subscription, the screenshot showing it was from an internal version where they were considering it.

it's like a race to the bottom of the barrel, only the barrel actually has no bottom - it's an infinite tin tube of shittiness. but wherever it leads, I think sony/naugty dog are ahead right now.

I actually am planning to get DE the moment it's released without any drm (putting my money where my mouth is), as I really like what they did with certain things (despite all the vertical mobility, which has no place in a Doom game, imho). might be a long wait, but hey, I've got all the time in the world..

They still haven't released Doom 2016 on GOG, so it might be an eternity.

I'm in no hurry. two months, two years, two decades, it's all the same to me - I simply don't have that I've got to play it NOW thing going on.

looks like anti-cheat is getting removed from Doom Eternal in the next update - even Bethesda can't afford to screw with the customers that much, I suppose.

anyway, good riddance.

yeeah sony, got bad news for you, if you're going to lie put reviewers into your pocket, you need to make it at least somewhat believable, throwing in some nines or even an eight or two. anyway, a handy list of places one should never trust ever again ain't a bad thing.

Sony isn't lying, as far as I can tell from  comparing with Metacritic. Whether or not these reviews are worth anything is another topic but I guess the game must be doing a couple of things right to garner such high praise.

fixed.

I probably should wait for an Angry Review, but I'm guessing they aren't - come on, that picture looks like someone just making fun of this, the only thing missing is a couple of elevens.
