Even if they did buy all these reviews, they did it successfully until someone can prove it. Therefor no fail.

well, the crap they pulled when trying to cover the leaks up definitely is real.

//random internet comment about the game, but too rich to not share;
The Last of Us 2 is just 2020 in game form.

It's a depressing mess where there's a contagious virus going on that literally doesn't matter anymore, as everyone is stupid and fighting each other over dumb crap.

//yep, it's a dumpster fire. graphics, mechanics and certain parts of the game are praised, the story, writing, ending and political agenda, not so much. and a certain Brokeback Mountain scene makes people nauseous. anyway, I think I'm done with this particular fail - feeling sorry for the fans, and hoping for below average sales, as naughty dog and all those who think they can just screw great franchises over and get away with it need to be taught a lesson.

bad dog! play dead! blam!! good boy.

Not everyone seems to like "The Last Of Us Part 2" all that much.

The Last of Us Part II tries to be profound. It fails
Of the millions who will play this game, most know that killing is wrong. Drawing attention to this fact in the killing game you made isn’t profound or interesting

one last poke into this - real reviews are out, usually giving the game 5-6 points out of 10, and sales are down 80% (pretty much confirming everything that has been said a few weeks earlier before the release).

lets finish up with another random internet comment;
It's a game about right and wrong, by people who think they are always right.

The fact that half the game is you playing as a new character entirely, and certain plot choices taken, gives the game a distinct " Last Jedi" style middle finger to the fans of the original. I have no plans to ever play it. Its not AT ALL what was portrayed in the trailers.

you know what the world never needed? Super 3D Noah's Ark. and what did it need even less? a modern source port of the game. and yet, here it is, running on windows natively, in high resolutions, with cloud saves and achievements.

I think this even beats the tiger games emulator by a small margin.

for a dollar yes, but two is out of the question.

I hired that game for the Super Nintendo once from a video store back in the 90s. Half half game. Mildly entertaining. I'd not call it terrible or anything.

so, microsoft bought Bethesda.

set sail for the fail?

Frankly I don't see why. They also bought Minecraft and GitHub and both got better.

6744f1fa73edb
well, Bethesda can't really go nowhere but up from where they are right now, so you might be right, I suppose.
6744f1fa7403c
That's not what I mean. MS let Mojang and GitHub run as their own companies, but with the financial security of MS behind it. And both are thriving on that. Explain to me why Bethesda shouldn't.

The only good thing about the purchase is that Obsidian and Bethesda are now under the 1 roof. Fallout New Vegas 2 - Yes please
6744f1fa7446d
Understandably, Sony fans aren't happy about the deal. If the Elderscrolls VI (the long overdue follow up to Skyrim), and new Doom games, new Wolfenstein games, new Fallout games, new Quake games (there must surely be some, given the success of the Wolfensteins and the Dooms of the past decade), new Prey* games (we can hope!), and new Dishonoured games don't find their way to the Playstation consoles of the time, then that will disappoint many gamers. It will certainly effect my choice of console.

* I want a new Prey game to be in the same vein and game engine as the fantastic 2017 game, though lots of people would prefer a new game to be of the Prey 2006 type.

Where Fallout is concerned, if it's not Obsidian making it, then I don't give a fuck about it. Fallout 4 - Massive disappointment. Then they turned it into a boring MMO, which isn't at all what the series is about. Fallout Shelter had some early promise, but even that only holds your interest for so long.

More Prey games - Hell yeah sign me up. Wolfenstein - Meh. Quake - Maybe. Doom - Hell yeah. Dishonored - Definitely, though from the way the last DLC ended, there couldn't be any more games.
6744f1fa74766
Dishonored might be done for now (first was good, second was very, very good) and I guess Prey too but I'm having some hopes for Deathloop to continue with some of the same game design spirit. Unfortunately it's one of those titles that MS wants to make a timed exclusive for the PS5... That's at least one bummer that came from this takeover.

also, I'm guessing the DRM/middleware situation is not going to improve for all the ms acquired franchises.

Seems like most of the new GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 cards currently sold (out) are borked by using cheap caps in the wrong places...

EVGA Says Nvidia RTX 3080 Cap Issues Caused Crashes, Confirms Stability Issues

In case you were looking to buy one, better wait until this has been sorted out properly. Apparently reducing the base clock slightly, prevents these cards from crashing but who wants to buy such an expensive piece of hardware just to have inbuilt flaws like that?

In case someone's interested in what seems to be the underlying technical issue with these caps:

can you please add a paragraph to explain what is a POPCAP, what is a MLCCs and why it is superior ?

PoSCap are solid polymer caps.

They are neither superior nor inferior, they just cover a different range (DC-10MHz) of the power supply filtering spectrum.

Different size capacitors are most effective across different ranges of the spectrum due to their packaging's intrinsic ESL. Once you pass a given capacitor's self-resonance frequency, it becomes more of an inductor than capacitor and stops contributing to supply filtering, which is why you see clusters of 3-5 different size caps to provide uniform coverage where smaller caps pick up at frequencies where the large caps become less effective.

The POSCAPs likely had too much total ESL to maintain sufficiently flat filtering until the next cap size down could pick up, so the GPU voltage got too noisy for stable operation beyond 2GHz on cards with no intermediate-size MLCCs between the POSCAPs and the rest.

Beginners' mistake as far as high speed circuit design is concerned.

yep, nvidia is no stranger to hw screwups - remember how their flagship graphics card line (the 6800, if memory serves) shipped with a flaw in the gpu that prevented hw video playback?

though this one is actually a fail on the manufacturer's side, if I understand correctly.
6744f1fa74d84
Or the GTX 970 advertising 4GB of GDDR5 RAM but only delivering 3.5? But yeah, it's not entirely clear if Nvidia is to blame for the current situation. Seems more likely that the manufacturers of the custom designs deviated from the specs and simply cheaped out* in the wrong places - not sure though. Depends on what actually was specified.

It's also not entirely clear yet, if not more of the cards that reviewers found to have the wrong caps, turn out to be pre-production units, like in the case of EVGA.

* might have to do with limited availability of MLCCs.

ah, almost forgot about that one - though that was more of a marketing fail if anything else, the card itself was fine, with the bang for the buck being more than adequate.

I kind of understand the reasoning (lets not scare the customers with a strange memory capacity number), but not really able to wrap my head around thinking that lying would make things better, and the naive notion that nobody will ever find out.

should have just rounded it down to 3GB and everything would have been fine.

It seems to only be AIB models that are effected, not that you could find an FE card right now.

And in defense of the 970, the card did have 4GB of VRAM, the last 500ish MB was just on a slower bus due to the way the GPU was cut down from the GM204, causing a noticeable performance impact. Like voodoo said, still a great card, and I used one for a few years. At the time it wasn't even a bottleneck in an situation you'd reasonably be using a 970 for.
