Okay so my summer of gaming has been put on hold lately because i seem to be having so many problems trying to get SS2 to work on my computer..

System Specs
Windows XP Pro, SP2
Intel 3.2 CPU
Nvidia Geforce 7900GS
1GB RAM
Audigy 2 Soundcard

So i've done a fresh install of the game from the CD.
Then i applied the official SS2 patch.
When trying to run the game with just that, i got the famous texture error after trying to start a new game.

So i looked around more online and found this place.
Read how i should use your SS2Tool. So i did.
I choose everything in the installer but the repatching and the modding stuff (mainly because i intend the play the original single player game without any mods)

Tried that and when i started a new game i got a black screen. No error however. So after waiting a couple minutes i ctrl-alt-del and noticed that the program wasnt responding.

So from here i'm all out of ideas. Any help?
It would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

Check the file cam.cfg. There should be a line "safe_texture_manager".

yup "safe_texture_manager" is in there.

but its not at the end of the file. not sure if that matters but i've read that adding that to the end of the file may help... that might be in the case that the file doesn't have it whatsoever though.. not sure.

anything else i can try?

Have you tried the DDFix? I'm not sure if it applies to the Geforce 7900 as well. Worth a try.

Thanks Koyla i'll give that a shot.
should i install that from a fresh install or is it fine to do it after patching the game and using the SS2Tool?

Well i also tried that and now i don't even get a black screen... now it sends me back to my desktop.
:(

Is it safe to say that i'll never get to experience this game on my newer computer?

Please say no if you can.. :P

You might not have installed DDFix properly.  What steps did you take to install it?

Well i installed the DDfix after patching the game with the official System Shock 2 patch and also after using the SSTool.

I extracted the DDfix to my System Shock Directory, double clicked the .exe, and then choose the "patch" option.

That was it.

I may also try to rename file Lgvid.ax to something else. It helped some folks get through troubles caused by cutscenes.

Intel 3.2 isn't a CPU model... Sorry but I had to say something...

Miggle, you need the fixes from the SS2 Tool (esp. Hyper Threading Fix and Texture Memory Fix). With this card you'll very likely also need the DDFix.
I know, I mentioned these above, just making sure you got all that.

Also do NOT attempt to run the game in compatibility modes. As mentioned in the Technical FAQ this does more harm than good.

Sweet, i had it in compatibility mode, once I turned it off it worked!
