This FM could REALLY use some voice acting, more logs, notes for objectives, codes for doors and a chemical storage room for research chemicals.

yeah, if you are familiar with its topic here, you'll know it's basically unfinished/doesn't follow the standard SS2 formula too much (basically, the author just dropping whatever he had at hand at one point, not consulting any guide or anything, which is exactly what one should avoid when making a SS2 FM - you'll need advice, voiceactors, betatesters and more if you want to put together something that would actually be worth playing).

I did fix a bunch of technical issues, but no plans for digging deep.

Yeah I actually talk about that, and of the authors reaction to negative feedback, at the start of the video. Not good.

The FM has a lot going for it. It just needed some extra TLC. Was there always text logs in the FM? I don't remember them in there. I'd only played this FM once though, so not 100% certain.

And this finishes my Let's Play series into all of the fan missions for System Shock 2. Hope you all have enjoyed watching them :). Been fun.

Dev thread for this FM here: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=8531.0

It's a bizarre mission. I don't know if it ever got better, but when I tried it, I found it confusing, clunky, too difficult, and the architecture much too large in places. It very strongly reminded me of similarly flawed Half Life missions that amateur mappers were pumping out in the early 2000s.

yeah - as mentioned, there is a certain way of handling things to achieve the SS2 style gameplay, something this mission lacks.

it's basically "look, I can make rooms and fill them with stuff. and you can shoot things. yaay". also, he did the missions in oldDark Shocked (despite all the updated tools being just one google search away), which is kind of amazing, in more than one way.

On a side note, the zip for it did not work straight away in the FM loader. I had to move all the files into the first folder the FM loader created. As it had a folder within another one, with that second one having earth.mis etc in there. Once I moved them all over it worked fine.

woah, that is indeed the case. fixed.

There is a whole bunch of areas where small improvements would benefit, like the transitions between levels being done via buttons rather than when the player steps in range of a certain door. Some sections were missing sound brushes as well.

yeah, oddly scaled objects are kind of a trademark of this fm.

The starting room has oddly shaped everything. Odd shaped bins, computers etc.

And the ending is just so abrupt. Prior to that, the spider ambush in complete darkness, followed by a never ending shotgun hybrid assault is just crazy.

So I skimmed the videos, and the cyberspace section seems shorter than I remember. Wasn't there a final boss fight against three SHODAN heads?

67439f6f37d77icemann

67439f6f37dc2
There could be. Or that might be Infinite your thinking of, as that has a multi-SHODAN head battle at the end.

There was one bit I strongly recall, that I did not encounter in v1.3 which was of a passcode protected door, with a cryptic puzzle on a wall nearby of what the code would be. You had to take a water path to get there. Did I miss a major path somewhere?

[edit]
Read the posts in the thread for the FM, and that door is indeed in that version and no text logs. So the logs must have been added later, and the path to the door removed, or I missed the path to it somehow.

Re-reading the extensive post that I did going through everything in the FM, it seems that your right Zylon. SHODAN battle at the end. I must have missed something major, somewhere.  On my first play through the FM ended in cyberspace, and yet in this one, it ended in me finding the survivors. Back in normal space.

I think you're supposed to climb those giant steps in cyberspace to get to the final battle. In fact I thought it was required to advance. I have no idea how you managed to get to the next area without doing this.

Your half right Zylon. In between my last post, and this one I went back and re-checked cyberspace, found the path then recorded an extra video going through that bit.

I say half right, since the FM ends after the battle. You don't get to go back, and go the path I went in part 2. It looks like this has branching paths. I never knew. Wow. The path I went in part 2 was meh. This is how the FM should end, and only this way. That other way should be completely blocked off and unreachable.
