When I introduced torrents on SBF I had the idea to distribute the bandwidth load on the site among shockers.
I have personally uploaded every torrent on this site at least 30 times by now. Still there are practically no seeders. So what happened is that I shoved the bandwidth load from the site on my personal connection, which isn't that fat to begin with.
This is not surprising, I knew this problem exists with torrents. But I admit I had hopes by setting up our own tracker we could raise some solidarity among shockers. As I see it now, this has failed.

So I'm considering to introduce a reward based P2P system which would ultimately replace torrents. eMule comes to mind. The concept is more advanced than torrents, especially when using the Kademlia network. But more importantly it rewards people who upload stuff. In regards to usability though eMule is still just awful. It's hard to set up correctly, hard to find nodes, it has a footprint like a yeti on CPU and memory (even after you followed all the tips), and it's buggy. (Don't let it it autostart with windows.)

So I'm open for suggestions. Mind you, I'm not asking for seeders here. It's cool if you seed but in this thread I'm asking for alternative file distribution methods. They should reward uploads, and be easy on the system and the usability side.

Hello,

I have a question: Are you sure your tracker is configured correctly?

I ask because I would really like to share what I have downloaded but for some reason none of the other Peers do connect to me. There are hundreds of peers and yet none of them connect to me, even though I was able to download everything and am now seeding.

There also appear to be very few seeders (1-5) compared to the Peers (~100), so I think that somehow seeds are not reported correctly in the tracker or something like that.

There simply are no other peers atm. What you see are inactive peers (swarm).

Peers: 0 (100)

And yes, the tracker should not report them that long. It's old and updates these numbers slowly but it works. If you're into technical details: It doesn't support 'scrape'.

In any case, it's very much appreciated that you seed a download. Don't worry too much about how it looks. Just as you could download the files, others will be able to do the same from you.

Ah okay, thank you for clearing that up. I will continue to seed for as log as possible. Thanks a lot for the great site and the great games.  :thumbwink:
