When I first heard Isabella I was walking down a sandy road on Naxos to get some breakfast from the island's supermarket. It was one of those super rare moments of complete happiness. It's a great song in any circumstance though.

Which one? In case you mean my last one, it's still accessible for me. A slightly surreal documentary called "Lee Scratch Perry's Vision of Paradise". Maybe it's region blocked but you might be able to find alternative YT-uploads that work from your region. This positivley crazy guy was a fascinating and highly influential figure for Dub (which he basically invented together with King Tubby), Reggae (co-creator of the genre and the man behind Bob Marley's breakthrough) and electronic music in general. Definitely a peculiar artist, not just as a musician and producer.

I like the other one better but here's an (more conventional) alternative:

Yeah, I just checked, unfortunately it's region blocked for most countries. Same goes for the other YT-links. Sorry about that. It's narrated in English with added German subtitles. There's also a version with French overdubs.

Not really peculiar or anything of that sort but a song I'm obsessed with for days now!

I have a weakness for those old-school techno/industrial/big beat tunes.

Unfortunately it's really hard to find good industrial music that doesn't include some questionable voice work. For a while I was really into Flesh Field despite them having only 2 proper albums before going under but they are the exception, I was never a fan of political themes in any music genre as it never ages well. Now some existential dread or just full on sci-fi is more like my thing.

Ever wondered what SHODAN would look like in a woke parallel universe? Yeah, me neither but here she is.* :)

Edit: video's gone now

*No disrespect intended towards Svedaliza, it's just what sprang to my mind due to the hairdo and sound effects. I actually like her music and weird style.

Not peculiar, just straight up Punk Rock like you don't hear it often anymore. Great energy, very refreshing! Julia Davis on speed.

I bought an Amyl and the Sniffers album a while back and while their music is great her singing tends to be a bit too much on the simple angry shouty side for me. Sometimes I like that, when I'm in a similar mood.

Yeah, it's not really a band I want to listen to for hours on end so it doesn't really lend itself to album format but sometimes I simply like primitive angry shouty staccato vocals just like that. There is something wholesome in the unpretentious rawness.

Your recommendation is great too though! :thumb:

Listening to the album currently as I mark assignments. I really like "You are the Sun". Very nice melody. Can't find it on Spotify annoyingly. Otherwise that'd definitely be getting added to my playlist.

* Kolya places checkmarks on all of these and adds Life of Agony, Biohazard, downset, and some other shite bands

Fortunately NOFX, Lagwagon and No Use For A Name came along and gave me something to actually identify with: Punkrock. The way this happened is a bit eerie. I had a summer job excavating a swimming pool in someone's backyard and I knew I needed some powerful music on my walkman to get through this. And suddenly there was this cassette with these bands on it. I had never seen it before, no one I knew listened to punk and no one ever came back asking for it. It was nothing short of a revelation for skinny pale me.

I'm a huge fan of beatmaker L'Orange. I own 12 albums and 2 EPs from him and haven't found a single beat that I didn't like yet. He keeps the jazzy golden age boom bap tradition alive and fresh. The sound aesthtetic perfectly blends breezy clarity with vintage warmth, full of dusty vintage samples and hypnotic melodies. Probably the only other beatmaker that I rank equally high in that regard is DJ Muggs, who is aiming for a significantly harder, doomier aesthetic though. Madlib, J.Dilla & Co were just runner ups, in my book. L'Orange's sound ist very warm and comfortable, the albums are conceptual in nature and very well arranged, with lots of skits. Some are mostly instrumental, some are very varied in terms of features and some are all out collaborations with specific artists.

My personal favourite album might be "The Ordinary Man", followed by "The Orchid Days". I love driving to work to them, early in the morning, when the streets are still empty.
