I'm taking this time to give you a big thanks.
I managed to get SS2 running on a single core, XP pc with a standard CRT with a little help from you (getting it mod ready manually), as well as the TTLG site. I've had it running on that machine about a month with SHTUP and Rebirth.
Now why would I give a big thanks for "a little help"?
Well, I didn't stop with just that pc.
I had tried first and many times since to install on my gaming rig and failed.
This computer is running a dual core, with XP, and a widescreen monitor.
I must have put 3-4 hours into setup, mods, etc. only to have it give me blackscreen and/or the dreaded "SS2 has a problem and needs to shutdown" message.
I was ready to give up so many times.....
I had read about the SS2-2.4 tool during the setup of the other pc but didn't need it for that one.
This time, after struggling, I remembered to get the tool.
Unfortunately, The download would almost finish off, then windows would pop up with a conversion problem....argh.
The download from Megaupload worked though. Great
After using the tool, same thing as before with the "shutdown message" at startup.
So, I got into the forums and found out it was probably the cutscenes.
I disabled the intro in cam.cfg and then the game would start. Cool, halfway there.
I looked around some more and found the "codec link" and then downloaded the old codec. Sweet, intro works now and game starts.
So, I set up my keybinds the way I like on my Nostromo and start playing with 1600x1200 graphics (fills up the widescreen just fine, not sure why).
A minute or so in, I notice that I can't drag and drop or use any items in the inventory screen, it just swings the wrench.
I tried a few things to fix the problem but then thought I should go look in your forums for that too.
I was not disappointed, and found the fix for the "my binds" problem.
The game is running great on my gaming rig now, I have installed SHTUP and Rebirth and I am thrilled.
So thank you, thank you, thank you, for all your hard work, problem solving information, and for keeping this forum up and running for us "late bloomers" in the System Shock 2 world.
p.s. I will make a donation for the forum to help keep it up and running for the next guy.
Thanks so much again.

Hehe, I was a "late bloomer" myself, when I got into System Shock in 2002, SS2 was already a few years old and I hadn't even played SS1. I'm glad it all worked out for you finally. Have fun with one of the best games in the world. And thanks a lot for your donation! It will be used to pay for bandwidth costs.

Kolya you are a class act and do a great job as admin.
The family pc isn't always available and I spend most of my pc time on mine. I found myself barely playing SS2.
If it weren't for you and this forum's other dedicated members, I most likely would have given up on the game.
The information I needed to get SS2 running right was here thanks to you all.
All I had to do was keep looking through different posts and my questions got answered.
Thank you again for keeping the game alive.

Oh am I glad I got it running on my pc, in less than 3 days I've gotten farther than I did in a month on the other pc.
Just wanted to update you and also say I'll leave you guys alone now so we can all get back to gaming.

I was thinking all the same when I found these boards and all Kolya's dedication. Although I was not a late boomer and had not so many issues that couldn't be solved by myself I still could see all the neat work accumulated here for everyone... that's rare and deserves at least a thank you.

First time I endevoured SS2 was when internet access cost cca 4-5€ PER HOUR where I live (and that was 2001 I think). I never even saw SS1. I always merited SS2 as one of the best games I ever played, but have discovered the community just a 1-2 years back. It was a delight for me as well to meet and chat with these great and helping people :) :).

I'm probably one of the latest bloomers. I didn't even start playing SS2 till December of last year, and just now started to understand ShockEd.

What is possible with the editor? Whole new worlds or modification of existing hallways?
I have no experience with it and don't want to go there yet but I am curious.

All of the above and more.
Theoretically, entirely new worlds with their own items, rules and statistics.

I want to say thank you again, to Kolya and everyone else.
I just finished the game and watched the ending cinematic, which is the best thing I've seen in a video game ever.
Now I know why SS3 was expected and so many people were looking forward to it.
The only problem is now I need to look into the original System Shock!
Thanks,

Well....now you're just showing off!  ;)
Whole new learning curve, should be fun.
Just when I thought I would have some free time on my hands!
Saved me a few bucks on eBay and quite a bit of time setting up and modding.
Thanks Kolya.

I played the SS2 demo at the age of 5. A little too early to be playing a game like this. I never got past the first hallway in Med/Sci. Too damn scared.

I began playing again at the age of 11. I've mastered the game so far and now have gotten into modding and tinkering with the Dark Engine. I also have a System Shock 2 commentary, covering my multiplayer gameplay with Chandlermaki. If you wanna take a look, go to the YouTube channel "leafss2".

I love this forum and this game.

What's next? Prenatal shockers scaring their mothers by asking for Cyber Modules instead of breast feeding?

We seem to have taken a turn that was not listed in the guide book. :rolleyesgreen:

But, just to play along, I could let my not yet conceived child have a go at the game I guess.....
I don't even want to talk about the keybindings that it's gonna take to make that happen though. ;)

Let the image in your mind just go away....don't even look at it.

Something tells me I'm gonna regret hitting the post button on this one.
