An album by lowrider. If you like stoner rock you may have heard of them. I've only been getting into this genre lately and they come up a lot.

I like the music of stoner rock, but the singing tends to be quite terrible. I'd like to hear someone like Grace Slick sing to those riffs or anything creative really. Until then I'm fine with instrumental desert/stoner rock.

In other more punk rocky news: NOFX will release a new album by the end of the week.

If there was such a thing as Stonerwave I'd probably be interested. As long as it refers Wave in the original 1980s genre term. And not "Hey I found this mall jingle from the 80s and made it sound really muffled, because I'm nostalgic for the blind consumerism from days of yore!", ie vaporwave.

I find a new favourite track in this album every few days. It reminds me of Pink Floyd in a good way, because of it's bright psychedelic vibe and clean production. It's never ominous but often hypnotic and at times mind expanding. There's a lot more guitar picking than you will usually find in stoner rock which contrasts well with the rockier parts.

I might be just talking to myself here and yes, lyrics like that are kind of juvenile. I don't care, it makes me feel good in a very primal way, just like Rockabilly for example. I doubt this will ever change.

I really liked the video for Sleep's track, but musically it's not my thing. Same riff for the first 3 minutes with some guy talking.
I didn't listen to all of the Marlboro Men album, sounded like pretty generic 80s metal form what I heard.

Black Elephant sound cool, minus the singing. Fortunately there's very little of that.
Captives of the Void is interesting too.

Many times here I thought: This is cool! And then another guy starts singing/screaming with that same choked strained voice and I can practically see their beer paunch protrude from a sweaty leather vest. And then I'm lost.
Please don't let this stop you though, the riffs are great and I'm sure I'll find some pearls for me.

I might as well post my first touchpoint with this genre: The Sword's Veil of Isis, which I still love very much including the lyrics the video and everything.

I didn't listen to all of the Marlboro Men album, sounded like pretty generic 80s metal form what I heard.

It is very repetitive, bordering on drone. Everything from Sleep and Al Cisnero's other band OM is like that. To me it feels hypnotic and the vocals read as chanting. The repetitive riffs work like instrumental mantras. Minor changes keep it from getting too boring (in my opinion), not unlike minimal techno for example and the dissonance from the fuzz, distortion and feedback have a strangely stimulating/sedating psychedelic effect (without the help of any drugs). I like it a lot but it's an aquired taste for sure.

I also like Extreme Metal and Doom Jazz because they have a similar psychedelic effect on me. Do you happen to enjoy either one of these`?

It's one of The Sword's better songs, for sure. Not really a fan of the band though.

Anybody with an interest in metal should look into Black Sabbath. Their influence on metal in general and the sub genres presented in this thread in particular is immeasurable! Tony Iommi IS the riff god. They released the first of their 19 studio albums in 1970! The Ozzy-phase is by far my favourite, others prefer Dio and he most certainly was a brilliant, technically much superior singer, one of the best metal singers of all times actually. But Ozzy added a lot to that special Doom atmosphere that they pioneered so well with their first two albums. Dio (inventor of the mano cornuta, btw) was more one for the stadion oriented theatrical classic metal anthems.
