That feedback? That is the exact feedback the developers need. Take or leave the argument of overal pixilation if you like i don't care on that sigular point. However zylon has put in an easily readable ad diguestable manner a laundry list of concerns and noteable attributes that need changing... from the standpoint of someone who has picked the original apart for the past twenty+ years, so it isn't like 'us oldsters are sobbing for pixel perfect recreations or some other impossible standard.' This is the guy that has put forward a heck of a large chunk of his life into documenting the franchise and improving shock 2. So while I personally despize the guy? Dude knows what he talks about here.

Were I in your position nightdive I would choose to listen to all of it. However, I will underscore one point of personal interest:

Pixelated text needs to go. Period. I don't care about artistic intent. I don't care about your aesthetics arguments. All of those are invalid. My eyes are super jank (and I have surgery in a couple weeks to try correcting/mitigating issues) so I understand this is not a universal concern or at least not as noticeable. Text needs to be above all else READABLE. If I can't read the text I don't care what it says because it's visual clutter, and while intentional visual clutter can lead to atmosphere in a survival horror game? This is unintended (i think? I hope anyway) obfuscation and making it harder on the player to find need to know information.

generally, a lot of stuff is allowed around here that would give you a boot elsewhere - unless there are threats of physical violence or similar, you are not getting permabanned. should a discussion get really profane or derailed, people will be asked to tone it down, and that's usually it, with ZB not being an exception. so there you go.

And it's not like I (for example) didn't have lots of different opinions than ZB, but instead of booting someone we're arguing about them. And this is where you are wrong, Hikari. He isn't narcissistic. Sometimes ZB is a bit used to always being right (because he very often is) but you can discuss with him. Once you have a somewhat intelligent argument and possibly make it past the first dismissive. You should try that.

I call it like I see it zylon. You are wildly talented and have been involved not just the definitive texture pack, but also documentations the balance patches, and a hell of a lot of other projects.

Not when literally anything aylo vposts that isn't directly dev relate whines and crows at everyone else,and even in this instance where he is posting relevant feedback he has to get his digs in. The pixilation issue on textures is a dead stock it is too late to do anything about it move the fuck on. Him constantly harping on pixelated textures is why I said what I said. The matter thee is settled because I don't see them halting development to redo every texture in the game because zylon cries, moana, and winged about it. If it's a filter they can remove? Fine carry on because them putting a setting toggle in is a hell of a lot simpler, but if the textures themselves have the pixelation? Him going on and ON about it is a meme at this point and it needs to die.

I know it's rich coming from me given the first jumble of sentences in this post but, if you can't change it. Move on to what you can change.

I will absolutely agree however, pixilation effects on text is pure and absolute horse shit for reasons of basic readability. A game can be played with some pixilation to the textures. You are free to have your opinion on its aesthetics, but unless the pixilation affects useability in making specific switches or other interactables hard to see (which is a concern I have given the sheer amount of BLUE on every texture. Just because it isn't brown doesn't mean it can't be muddy or confusing.)

This is true to a degree. Unlike other places this place is a meritocracy, in a conscious decision. I make people moderators here as a reward for their contributions to the community. And yes, these people get a bit more leeway when it comes to social conflict.
Because socialising is not what this forum is primarily about. SS.org is not a social network. It is an archive of a highly technical sort. That's why technical knowledge and contributions are prioritised. Of course there are limits, as voodoo47 pointed out.

I don't begrudge the fact you guys put up with zylon's prickly above everyone else attitude. Guy is bloody brilliant and a tent pole on a lot of important projects. It's just a matter of the fact he acts the same now as he acted in the ttlg forums. I deal with people like him all the time in meatspace and pretty much have to knuckle down and deal with it because that's how things work. Here is supposed to be a hobby space so having to walk here and see the same kind of behavior? Just doesn't sit well.

The system shock kickstarter was in 2016. The only reason I am not screaming 'scam' is how communicative they have been during the process of engine migration, scrambling to pick back up after scope restructuring, and, last year pretty much kicked everyone in the teeth.

I have to admit being turned around a bit on the cyberspace levels, but i count that as a personal failing more than anything else since I had never had much luck with descent style games. Will differ to others for opinions past agreeing that collision damage when hitting walls is... Well it needs to go.

I have some personal texture complaints, but I will need to go play through again and grab screenshots for examples since the 'overwhelming blue's has the same problem the 'real is brown' era had for my eyes, but as established earlier... Asking for mass texturing at this pointg is childish and stupid. So learn to live with it.

Need to replay since I hadn't in a few weeks (home renovations.) Then I can give more thoughts on combat flow, enemy placement, and the like. Last time I played through though I honestly felt like I had too much ammo for the type of game system shock is. !maybe they got changed in am update but I was expecting to have to cling to the pipe pretty hard and instead found do long as I didn't empty entire clips at every noise, once I got the non energy pistol I was pretty well in the clear minus personal situational unawareness.

Maybe that's a function of difficulty being set too low?

And this is a far better place than some other forums. I left TTLG a few months back for good and am all the happier for it. Place used to be an excellent forum, but now is largely very left aligned, cancel culture heavy and toxic. But it's all about finding the right forums that are the right fit for you. I moved on to posting more here and being more active on the RPS forums. Far better and a million times happier (forum posting wise) as a result.

That in no way is me saying to you Hikari that this place is not the right fit (as I'd had that exact language said to me, and I'd never use such language on anyone). Just more saying to frequent whichever forums best align with you. Interests and forum people wise, which may change with time.

  Hehe, I like your style there. But it's not like this. As I said, this is mainly a file archive. So you're free to come around and grab anything you need or like. You don't have to leave.
But if you want to discuss with us, then you'll have to deal with the people somehow. If they left it would be much worse for System Shock than your slightly bruised ego.
And yes, there are similarities to a workplace. We have a narrowly scoped shared interest of enhancing the product and a general interest in techy things. This is why we're here. Other than that people are quite different and sometimes eccentric. And they smell weird.
