Korenchkin keeps emailing this guy, adressing him as "Miri" (VladiMIRI?). I've always thought he was talking to Delacroix (Marie), but it made little sense he would be so friendly with her, when they hate each others guts. With the HUD logs mod I now realized for the first time that it's sent to a certain Zhukov, Vladimir. Is this his gay lover or some fellow crook back on earth / or on the VB? Is "Miri" some kind of russian word that I don't understand? Did we ever get backstory on this one?
Edit: Not sure if it's back on earth, the way he adresses him/her, especially in german. In german he says "you and the rest of the crew will be on our side", and in english he says "you and the entire board".

By the context of the logs, Miri is a friend and ally of Korenchkin who is also a member of TriOp's executive board.  I had assumed they were on earth, because they have no logs of their own, and Korenchkin's logs to them take the form of progress emails to someone who is not directly involved in affairs.

I figured the same. Maybe LGS fucked up with the Nickname (Miri instead of Vlad), and didn't offer enough backstory on their relationship, that even the (very good) german translators didn't know what was meant and translated it incorrectly?

actually checked the strings - so yeah, seems like Korenchkin really calls a Vladimir "Miri". a really strange nickname, guess someone at IG not bothering to google. we'll have to live with it.

I'll just repeat, in real life, it's probably not a great idea to call a Vladimir "Miri", especially if he looks ex-military.

I wasn't implying that, it's just that in my experience, you need to be really close to the person in question in order to use a cute sounding nickname without risking involuntary rearrangement of facial features.

or be part of the event that earned them the nickname. like getting wasted together, with the guy falling unconscious in a puddle of eggnog, and waking up with his hair full of the stuff and all yellow - from that point, he's Goldilocks, I guarantee that (even if he is a 150Kg mean looking balding man). in this scenario, occasionally calling the guy that would earn you a wide grin, instead of a punch-in-da-face.

not quite sure whether that's the proper wording, but he is talking about the way slavic surnames work, I think - basically, women will have a suffix added to the surname that will signify its carrier is female. while practical for quick identification, this can also cause issues, as technically, a couple will still have slightly different surnames even if married, and countries largely not aware of the practice can see this as a problem (surname not the same = not married = visa denied).

well yes, while Vladimir can also be a surname, that's definitely not the case here.
