still not sure what do you mean by the dialog - the open Install mod archives button? tried a few dumb thing, including archives that are not SS2 mods, and everything went fine so far.

also, maybe add a delete mod button (that would delete a mod completely)? are you sure prompt recommended.

Yeah, the menu that is opened after you press the button. There are two "menu types" to pick from. One lets you have full control over what the user can pick in that menu but looks like shit, the user one does not.

Can do.

I see no problem with the current solution, both visually and functionally. I mean, if someone's not able to select the mod archive and click open (all that's required), than maybe he shouldn't be using a computer.

That's good to hear. :)
Re: Re: SS2 Blue Mod Manager

Deletion and file watching are implemented. If you drop an archive in the DMM folder, it will be extracted and moved to the DMMArchives folder in the main SS2 folder.

One final round of testing and this is good to go. CAUTION: I lost my DMM folder due to a bug (or unexpected behaviour?) in wxWidgets which, when a folder name is not terminated by a separator, removes everything in the parent folder. This should not happen anymore, but make a backup just in case.

would change "this will remove the mod from your hard drive" into "this will remove the mod from your SS2 install" or similar, to indicate that only the modfolder will be gone, not the source zip file. apart from that, good to go, though I would really like to see someone else try more stupid with it before it's greenlit for the tool.

//the www lookup is kind of wonky, installed and searched ADaoB (ADaOB-v030.7z), and it went straight into this topic: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=2256.0 instead of showing a search like it does with the rest.

The lookup function takes the first Google search result and either shows it as such (I don't know why) or goes directly to the webpage. Nothing I can do about it, except removing the "call first result" function. Given that this works in 99% of all cases, I'm hesitant to remove it.
Of course, you can edit the post... :D

If the file is not present anymore (mod has been updated), the search will definitely fail. So it's either an average result in all cases or a very good result in most cases with a small number of (total) failures.

well, it's not a critical function, so no big deal.

I cannot (can I?) attach pictures in private messages, so below is my answer to Marvins following PM. Sorry for the german, it's about testing his version of the BMM on Linux under Wine.
Hallo,
könntest du die neue Version des Mod Managers in Wine testen? Ich habe zwar Linux, aber kein Wine und kein SS2-Setup.
https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4790.msg101742#msg101742

Folgende Funktionen müssen funktionieren:
1) Archiv in DMM-Ordner kopieren, Manager starten -> Archiv wird installiert und verschoben.
2) Manager starten, Archiv in DMM-Ordner kopieren -> dito
3) "Install mod archive(s)" ausprobieren
4) Delete-Button ausprobieren

Wenn du keinen Bock hast, sag Bescheid. :)

1) Funktioniert.

Make sure the mod is extracted and placed properly." Edit: Ebenso in v1.13.

Thanks for testing!
- Don't know what's happening with the cut off text, that's wxWidgets/Wine.
- Crash was an older bug, fixed.
- about 2): Wine cannot handle file modification, only creation and deletion. This feature unfortunately won't work on Linux. :-/
- German subtitles are badly packaged, also not a full mod yet. Fixed.
- Yep, the info message about archives is only spawned once.

You're welcome.

I don't get why 2) wouldn't work when 1) does, but anyway, it's not a big deal. 1) is the awesome feature anyway. But...
- Yep, the info message about archives is only spawned once.
... maybe that info message should be spawned everytime? I don't think it would be too much trouble, but some people might be missing their .zip files in the future. A simple click of "yes" is not too annoying for me. Maybe integrate a "don't show this box any more"-tick?

Because 1) scans the folder on startup while 2) relies on a file system watcher. I could rescan the folder every time something's updates, but that would defeat the purpose of having a watcher in the first place.

Will try.

I would have wanted rccc to test the new version in Wine on OSX but since I'm not expecting any differences to Linux Wine, I could live without it. Otherwise, I'm good to go. As the previous way of mod installation is no longer the recommended one, should I simply open a new topic or prepare a post to copy-paste as the new OP?
Do you want to change the Newbie Guide too or would you like to wait before including it in the SS2Tool and then update?

the OP and the guide will have to be updated of course - K will probably handle the guide, and I can edit the OP for you, just post the new content here.
Re: Re: SS2 Blue Mod Manager

Here's the new OP, replace [PIC] with the respective image. If you or someone else can get an appropriate pic2 with English names, take that instead. I hope nobody is scared of a little German anymore.
Code: [Select]

- WinXP or later.
- System Shock 2 v2.4 or later.

[anchor=installation]Installation[/anchor]
Extract/place the program in a folder of your choosing, and it's ready to use.

[anchor=how_to_use]How to use[/anchor]
Launch SS2 Blue Mod Manager, press Select game folder... and select your System Shock 2 main folder.
[PIC1]

Press Extract mod archives... and select the mods to install. You can select multiple files at once using [key]Shift[/key] and [key]Ctrl[/key].
Alternatively, copy the mod archives to the "DMM" folder.
Archive files used for installation can be safely deleted, including the "DMMArchives" folder.
[PIC2]

Activate mods and arrange priorities (mod that is higher on the list overrides every mod below it). That's all, now you can press Exit and start game.
[PIC3]

If you want further information about a mod, you can press Lookup (WWW) to see its thread here on Systemshock.org or open a ReadMe file if present. If you have no further use of a mod, Delete it.

[anchor=download]Download[/anchor]

Only put the release in the OP, I'll leave the source code here. I'm also adding a debug build, so if anyone encounters any crashes, you can send me the dump and I can look for the problem.
As for the 7z.dll: For extraction to work, there must be one either a) in the SS2 folder or b) in the executable path of ss2bmm, which will probably be the same. So far, the ancient DLL provided by SS2Tool seems to work with SS2BMM while the new DLL works with fmsel, as long as you don't use advanced compression features. I'd vote for the tool to provide the newer DLL, but it's ultimately your/Kolya's choice.

For posterity's sake, the changelog:
Code: [Select]
#Version 1.14#
+ Added archive extraction feature: Mods can now be automatically installed by either 1) clicking the "Extract mod archives..." button and choosing the mod archives to install or 2) copying mod archives to the DMM folder. In the latter case, the archives will be moved to the new "DMMArchives" folder in the main Shock2 folder. They can be deleted if the user does not need them anymore.
Currently supported archive types: 7z, rar, zip, ss2mod (repackaged 7z, rar or zip file).
+ Added delete button: Delete a mod folder from your hard disk.
+ Added lookup (WWW) button: Open mod thread on Systemshock.org.
+ Added ReadMe button: Open mod readme file. Only files having "read" in their name are considered.
~ Fixed crash when clicking on "Open mods folder" without having a mod selected (thanks to ColonelSFF)

Internal:
+ Archive extraction is handled by 7zip-cpp released unter the MIT license: https://github.com/getnamo/7zip-cpp. Build scripts are available in the "Script" folder.
The 7zip-cpp wrapper relies on and is built from the following projects:
SevenZip++ by Chadwick McNab (placed in public domain)
LZMA SDK (placed in public domain)

You forgot the thread title. ;)

Goody. Now I can lean back and wait for the inevitable bug reports like "The delete button erased my home folder, I'm suing you for $10k".

fixed. also checked xpsp3 compatibility (as we definitely still want that), and everything seems to be working fine, so as far as I can tell, 1.14 is good to go.

also, this pretty much makes mod loading as user friendly as humanly possible - it's really just three clicks plus setting up priorities, no more manual stuff involved, so great job, if I haven't said that before.

So, rccc found the time to test the manager on OSX and it doesn't look so good. Some of the problems are the result of the file watcher implementation (which I can't change), but there seem to be some more bizarre bugs such as the Delete button not working.

Long story short: If you have a Mac plus whatever kind of Wine-bundled SS2 version you use, could you please play around with the manager and write down what doesn't work? Any help is appreciated. :)

Edit: XP support won't go away, voodoo, as it would make the manager impractical or impossible to use on Unix/OSX.

Re: Re: SS2 Blue Mod Manager

Ok, here's what I found.

Setup:
- SS2 from GOG
- Wineskin 2.6.2
- WS9Wine1.9.11
- SS2Tool 6.1.1.1
- bmm 1.14 included in SS2Tool
- Macbook Air on Mac OS X 10.11.5

Starting bmm (empty) works, as does starting the game via "Exit and start game".

Install mod archive(s)...
I can select a mod archive, but after clicking "open" I see an empty pop-up with an OK button, see the screenshot 1.
If I click the OK button, nothing seems to happen, ie the selected mod is not displayed, but: If I "Exit and start game", enter game, quit game, restart bmm, the chosen mod is listed as installed and active. It's exactly the same if I select more than one archive. Initially the mods are marked as inactive, and they also actually are. Activating them, in- and decreasing priority also works. So it does kinda work ...

Open ReadMe file
Works (tested with AccFam mod)

Lookup Mod (WWW)
Works partially. Clicking the button opens a browser window with the correct mod thread (again tested with Accfam), but also an empty popup with OK button is displayed, hitting the the button appears to do nothing. It looks exactly the same as in the first screenshot.

Delete
this just doesn't work at all. Select a mod, hit "Delete". Again I see the weird empty pop up with OK button. Hitting it does nothing. Exiting and starting the game, then exit the game, restart bmm reveals that the mod has not been removed.

I hope this helps.

The lookup mod function doesn't even have any kind of message window attached to it. This will be interesting.

Okay, here's a first test for the new Wine fixes. This might solve the following:
- Message popup when using lookup on OSX gone
- Mod deletion working on OSX
- Mod list is immediately updated after "Install mod archive(s)" button is used without having to restart both on Linux and OSX

rcc, Colonel: Please tell me which of these are true.
