got hit by the "we are sure you are using our software for commercial purposes so no more connections for you" wave (yeah right), so I need an alternative (ideally, with a simplified support version an elderly person could easily download and use, think TeamviewerQS), any quick recommendations?

Not a personal recommendation, but nature the internet always finds a way.

I've used AnyDesk and have no complaints,. It is very similar to Team Viewer, but I haven't tried it with an IT-disabled person so far.

I still can establish a Teamviewr connection for about a minute before it boots me out, more than enough to download and run the new module on the target computer. will check AD, thanks.

and yes, the person is the disablestest of all IT-disabled persons that ever existed, their disdain for technology effectively preventing them from learning even the basics, despite being a windows computer user for about 2 decades now. amazing in its own way.

It asks the person to allow incoming connection even when you already know the pin, this is the only downside i found. But you can bypass this by setting up a permanent access with password.
