well yes, but those have been made quite a while ago (I am aware that good source material to movie adaptations and remakes exist). I guess I should have said "recent movies" to be perfectly clear. fixed.

anyway, people who think way too much of themselves making everything into garbage seems to be the running theme in Hollywood lately, no matter how you look at it.

Look at Rian Johnson's Last Jedi. Not picking up on existing plot threads JJ 'Mystery Box' Abrams breadcrumbed, not explaining anything, turning what had been reasonably competent antagonists (Hux mainly) into a punchline. taking existing legacy characters and tearing them down (Luke chugging blue milk freshly squoze being kept in the movie vs a scene of him mourning Han being cut,) 'subverting expectations' and on and on as the middle movie in a trilogy. Had it been the first movie in a trilogy.... maybe it could work to show just how screwed up everything is, but even as 'new material' it is picking up an existing story and thus there are expectations that story is continued coherently. Honestly going from Force Awakens to Last jedi is pretty jarring and 'hey waitaminute it feels like I'm missing several hundred pages worth of novel here explaining how the first order went from suffering a catastrophic blow with their biggest EXPENSIVE monster weapon destroyed, to... having already won except for a bunch of people who's leader has her head shoved so firmly up her ass she'd rather smugly keep people in the dark than explain anything to keep panic down.'

Maybe Knives Out does better since it's a wholly original IP, but... he showed no real respect or care for the star wars property, and he was hailed and pampered with any critics mocked as' basement dwelling manbabies' by the hollywood wonks that want continued access.

Relevance to System Shock is that this shows the level of 'respect' big names have for existing IP. After all if Star Wars, the juggernaut that could not fail to drive merch, got rode into the ground.... what hope does System Shock have?

Is it April Fools already? I thought we're not doing that anymore.

I don't think it really has to do with remakes/sequels or not. I think that's a red herring based on confirmation bias.

The reality is, basically all Hollywood movies made in the last 10-15 years absolutely suck. That's not to say they all do, but the vast, vast majority do. People don't really care when an unknown movie tanks, but people are invested in original movies and seeing a bad remake or sequel hurts them on a more fundamental level because they care, so they notice.

Ghostbusters 2016 was one of a handful of terrible comedies made that year. But because it was a sequel to a beloved franchise, it hurt more and people remember it.

Hollywood is a very partisan community, and they are going to always attack people who don't like their garbage as "alt-right". Again, existing fanbases are bigger so the discussion gets big enough to go offline.

The Castlevania Anime was indeed quite good. Surprisingly. However, it's largely just loose themes & characters in common. Castlevania (game) had a story of course, but it's pretty barebones. All about the gameplay. You wouldn't expect anything of value to come from a TV adaptation of the game but they made it work with tasteful, exciting, mature content. Almost as if it was made two decades ago. There is perhaps one too many monologues and overall dialogue to action ratio is off, but taking it for what it is it is worth a watch.

Not played any Castlevania? Play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (1997). It's an absolute action RPG classic right there alongside System Shock 2 in prestige....well, close anyway.

The Metroidvania Castlevania entries had FAR more narrative / story. Of course still not much, but more present

I mean... I could make a page like that in word, or open office, or whatever, print it up, sharpie a spot where a name should be, photograph it, post and that doesn't make it a thing that will happen.

They need to stop being coy and start delivering news. The time for Coy has long passed given the game that was kickstarted in 2016 still hasn't gotten here, and doubt is rather high. So to my eyes they need to either shut the fuck up, or give us actual information. None of this playing coy tease and wink bullshit. Fine you wrote three fucking lines on a page, is that supposed to excite me? Who's the writer? OOooh riiiight redacted. Who's in it? Don't know. Where's it being filmed? Don't know.

And on.. .and on... and on.

They should base it off "Free Radical". That is some damn fine System Shock fan fiction.
