I lately found out about Gog Galaxy 2.0 being a multi-launcher that you can collect games from most services in, plus ones you already have on your HD. I really like that. So I started using Gog more. Of course I also appreciate them being DRM free very much.

I began by wishlisting games on Gog that I had also wishlisted on Steam and I found out 2 things.
1. I don't get mails when Gog games are on sale for some reason, but that's probably my fault
2. Many games that are on sale on Steam ask the full price on Gog.

Why? As a publisher, what difference does it make to you? It's not even like these were AAA games that would benefit from DRM.

last time I've checked, the multi-launch ability did not actually allow you to get rid of the drm, so basically, if trying to launch some steam exclusive which has drm, all the bs would have to be launched in the background anyway.

so if you are hoping to play HL2 without the steam client drm, this is not going to help afaik, all you are getting here is only having to deal with one interface (GOG galaxy) instead of multiple. which isn't bad, but my primary concern is drm.

Oh yeah yeah, I know that. But I already like having all my games in once place.
I'm pretty sure there is an open source game launcher* I had once, which basically does the same thing minus the Gog shop integration.

*Apparently there are two of them: Launchpad and Playnite

EDIT: Apparently Launchpad has ceased development

I still only use the client for content delivery, so can't say I care too much for that. I'm an old man, I like my desktop shortcuts.

I used to love desktop icons, but then my screen became a sea of them. As of Windows 7,  I switched to using quick launch and never looked back. It's quite handy having that 1 click away, rather than having to switch to desktop.

So I do get emails from gog telling me when my wishlist items are on sale

They also frequently have sales

Gog and Steam will often have the same game on sale at different times. I don't know why that is but I have a theory.

If they go on sale at all stores at the same time, it feels less special if they go on sale at one store, so people are less likely to buy the "rare deal"

You can get a browser extension for Steam - called Steam Enhanced - which will show you the best price for any game you look at there.
