Does anyone know where I could find the character portraits and gifs in System Shock 1?

All I can find are regular textures and mac portraits, but not the gifs that play on the screens or the DOS/PC CD character portraits.

Edit: I found this: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=113.msg5977#msg5977 and this https://tsshp.sourceforge.net/glen/ss1.html

But a lot of the files won't run or don't come with good instructions so I can't test them.

Also found this: https://www.ttlg.com/ss1/voiceres/index.htm, which has the email pictures, though not by themselves.

There are no GIFs anywhere in System Shock. Are you talking about video files? If that's what you're after, you should ask JosiahJack about it, since he's already decoded the format for his System Shock remake.

I have no idea what a denial of service character portrait is.

So yeah technically not saved as gifs, but rather images played in order, but still those frame images is what I am trying to find.

I am aware and I have, I don't need you to tell me something I already know.

Why should it matter if I reply or edit?

I guess but no one usually has a problem with it as long as the main points of the conversations are conveyed idk why it matters

it's considered good practice. or rather, not doing it is considered bad practice - think loud burping in a restaurant, it's not like there's rules against it, nobody is going to throw you out or punch you in the face, but people are going to look at you and roll their eyes, and you are going to degrade their experience.

another good example would be grammar - not as important on discord or some chat app, but on a forum, you generally want to use better grammar, the posts are there to stay, so lets try to not make someone's eyes bleed 10 years down the road.

Well literally no one has had a problem with this until now, pretty much every single other site I have been on you reply to a comment when you have something to say, and only edit something to correct it or edit the main post to add more detail.

So while you all may consider it bad practice, it seems like most do not care.

I would advise you all stop caring so much about it, or have a proper rule about it, or at least stop bringing it up.

Also I don't think this is comparable to that example either.

Can we please get back on topic?, I asked for help, not to get lectured on something that doesn't matter.

I know I'm derailing the topic even more, but...I think that's mostly related to Internet forums being long in decline, which means that the majority of people are used to different standards by now. I clearly remember how people would point such matters out way more often, when instant-messaging services weren't as dominant as they are today.

let me wrap it by adding that it's either using the edit button to reduce the number of posts a bit, or getting an occasional raised eyebrow from someone who is not yet aware of your posting style.

Ok so I managed to figure it out, I took the texture extractor from here: https://tsshp.sourceforge.net/glen/ss1.html

And made a copy of the SS1 folder/files and extracted everything

Only thing I need know is how do I resize some of them without making them blurry?

Edit: nvm I figured out how to do that too though for some reason it appears some of the shodan images aren't animated like they should be

Not writing what you mean is indeed confusing. DOS means "Disk Operating System". DoS means "Denial of Service".

A lowercase letter in an acronym or initialism always indicates a word that would be not be capitalized if the entire thing was written out in title case.

Still I figured what I meant was obvious since it is just one letter and given the context, but whatever

Anyway it seems that textures that are animated in game, don't always show the frames in the files so not sure how to extract them

673fa04bae1fcvoodoo47

673fa04bae246
even in SS2 you have just a set of pictures that will be then animated ingame, so SS1 is doing the same, probably.

Oh really?, I wonder what the reason for that is. So is there anyway to extract them or no?

no idea. had the editor opened for the first time today, tried to figure out how to edit the log texts, no luck so far.

SS1 uses palette rotation to animate some of the colours. In Shodan's case the eyes and wires.
Palettes are rotated in small sections with different speeds.
I don't know any tools that make full animation loops (frames + full loops of palette rotations).
The animations could actually get quite long to get seamless loop.
