Hmmm, in that respect calling a game with everything identical a remaster makes sense.

I can logically see how you would come to that conclusion. But if they are rewriting the code base than would it not be a remake to?
But then again why would they rewrite when they can port the existing code base over, remake all new assets, tweak that code base for the new hardware and refined mechanics?

In regards to Black Mesa and Homeworld . I would call Homeworld Re a remaster. I have not played it but did it not use the original game and expand on it? With some improvements. Maybe EE would be more accurate. I kind of view them as the same.

Black Mesa I call a remake. Different engine, new assets, improved AI (maybe?), new code base, etc.

Heck IDK anymore TBH.

iirc, Homeworld remastered is Homeworld2 engine/assets pretending to be Homeworld1, to the point of fooling a non-fan. anyway yeah, it's chaos, and I don't really mind as long as I get good stuff out of it.

Yeah me neither. I am not worried about all the labels so much. If it is good I dont mind all that much what it is called or how it is made.

But I guess technically then Homeworld remastered is a remake using the HW 2 engine which in turn is an iteration of the first games engine in all likely hood. just like the LOU games. Meaning the naming classifications and definitions are all over the place.

There is no defined system in place for these things that every game developer has agreed on so they just call it what ever they want really. Maybe it is a simple as "what sounds good" from a marketing perspective and what image they want to portray for what ever project they are working on.

Just lump all those names under that label. Problem solved. Since we are always trying to determine what they mean might as well go the extra mile and make it a name that has no definition. haha.

Bullshit. If someone announced a re-whatever of System Shock, and what they released was Pac-Man, I'm pretty sure most people would be reasonably upset.

See for example the whole Underworld: Ascendant debacle. Even if what Otherside released hadn't been a buggy mess, it still was what absolutely nobody was expecting or wanted.

There will be a few small new things and I avoided some spots with some changes that people have not seen yet. It is basically an updated video of the gamescon one but with some one who has played it more. haha.

Well it doesn't appear like you turned on the lights and plus IIRC lighting is a tad brighter by default in EE

Also I'd argue the Remake still looks darker, especially in certain rooms

Looking at it side by side makes it look like a good remaster. But part of me wishes they went full reboot with the cancelled UE4 environments.

It isn't a remaster, a remaster is the same game with the same code and assets

And also with the different music, lighting, designs, etc I'd argue it isn't a good remake, at least it being true to the original.

Here are some more as I notice you left out certain rooms and didn't turn the lights on in the original game (note I turned on the lights as realistically they will be on most of the time in game)

I am also using EE with default lighting as that is my preferred way of playing

Looks about the same, character pictures are animated, some dialogue seems slightly different, cyberspace seems slightly different, and lighting is a bit brighter but not a night and day difference

Still lacks the original music, tho I guess that was expected


Things I would like but I either know we won't get or I don't expect to:

-The original music (at least as an option)
-Missing weapons and items like flechette, dart gun, sense around, etc
-Some color and visual tweaks to cyberspace
-Enemies to resemble the original a bit more, like Cyborg Enforcers to be brown with a closed visor, Maintenance Bot to be more beetle like, Shock-Bot to be more like the Security 2 Bot from the original, cyberspace enemies to closer resemble the shape and color of the originals, etc

More than anything tho I just want an original OST option, IDK if we'll get it cause they won't say

A remake is built from the ground up with all new assets, usually in a new engine (tho not always)
