Derelict
A System Shock mission

Latest version can be found at the GitHub repository releases.

Installation instructions can be found in the README file.

Tips
You can use map markers (open full map from the FULL text in small MFD view) to take notes, write codes down, name areas and mark places you need to go. There are no quest lists or pointers in System Shock.

Wow, already the screenshots look impressive and invocative :)
Did you consider publishing it also on moddb.com?

Pumped a few hours into it. Video should be up in a bit. I got stuck:

Attempting to find the Isolinear Chipset fabricator in the cyberspace terminal, in the room where you place them the chips (is that the bridge? not sure). Found 1 section in cyberspace that appeared to have 2 passages, as there was 2 arrows pointing at different paths, but one of them I couldn't get into. Spent quite a bit of time there, bashing my character against the wall trying to get in, without success.

Also have a door on the 2nd level, which states that there is a Cortex Reaver cyberspace lock on it, but could not find it in the cyberspace terminal on that level. Got the chipset.

Beyond the bits where I got stuck, I'm really enjoying this so far.

The video mentioned above, for those interested in seeing some gameplay. Also put up a here in the runtime section.

There is a log message about mainframe memory problems.
You need to find the mainframe diagnostic panel to open that route in cyberspace.

Ooo. Ok. That had not occurred to me to check into. That bit completely re-railed my play through when I got to it.

Thanks for playing! I will try to improve the cyberspace info node text in next release version.

icemannI watched your video. And already improved couple of things for next version.
When outside the ship, move slowly along the wall. Like astronauts do on a spacewalk.

Ah nice. Expect another video later, as plan to jump back into it later today.

[edit]
And finished. Much of my issues were towards the end, as you saw in the 1st video. Bridge could have used signage, just so that the player knows that it is the actual Bridge, and the space walk outside the ship was not clear in what was needed there.

Beyond that, this is a fine fan mission. Very much enjoyed it, good work.

A new SS1 Fan Mission? It always is a treat to see these

Do you have instructions on how to install it? It isn't as straight forward as others. The ReadMe isn't a txt file for some reason.

Normally I drag and drop the files but for some reason that isn't working and I can't read the instructions

Edit: I found instructions on GitHub but I follow them and they don't work, the game doesn't launch

Re: SS1 mission: Derelic

Xkilljoy98You can open README.md in any text editor.

The instructions are different depending on which System Shock variant you are running.
Easiest is to use the later SS1 Enhanced edition.

Copy the files in SS1EE directory to
Code: [Select]
C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Nightdive Studios\System Shock EE\missions\derelictYou will need to create that derelict directory your self.
There should be mission.as and RES directory under it.

I hope the screenshots help.

GawainOk thanks, I wasn't calling it RES since that wasn't mentioned, I was calling it Data.

Though I try doing that it still says Resource not found when trying to launch it

Also not sure if that New Atlanta file is from my own Mod but if it is thanks for trying it

Did you uncompress the whole RES directory?

I will try to improve the readme. Thanks for pointing out it didn't clearly say you have to copy everything.

There should be these files in it:

Oh I see now, you have cloned (or downloaded the "source" package) the git repo and downloaded the 7z file. You only need the 7z file and get the files from there. No need for the "source". I will improve the instructions!

[edit]
The installation should be just as easy as your New Atlanta. But I see now that the github releases page isn't very clear what is actually needed.

GawainYes, I tried only copying those but it still doesn't work and idk why. The game refuses to launch. I have tried in both pre-source port and source port versions

The problem is that you have downloaded all the project files (that are not usable without processing).
Remove everything and download only the derelict.20240719.7z file.

GawainOh ok, and how do I unzip it? I don't seem to have anything that can as it isn't a normal zip file

Edit: nvm I figured out to unzip it
Re: SS1 mission: Derelic

Xkilljoy98
Right. You need https://www.7-zip.org/ or Windows 11...
Other tools such as WinRAR probably opens 7z files too...
Maybe I should use .zip files, but those are twice as big...

GawainOk I figured it out, it works now. I feel a little stupid but this all started cause I didn't think to unzip it with that so I tried the wrong files assuming they were the same. Oh well at least it works now. Thanks for the help :3

I would recommend making a note of which files to download and what to use to unzip in the read me

Took me a few goes as well to get it working. Once I realized to only follow the stuff under "SSEE" in the readme that I got it to work.

SSEE is the only game I have, where I need to go into appdata to setup a mod. For all others, just find the games steam directory, paste files and your good to go.

I beat the mod, overall my thoughts are that I enjoyed it. It was a fun few hours and I like having new SS1 content to dig into. There were some creative parts in there that were good and if you end up making more I am excited to see what it is.

Also on a side note, I think the ship should have a name.

Found the correct download instantly. Installed it correct first try without trouble.
You should totally make a moddb account. Spread the mod anywhere you can! @Gawain
Also sad I cant talk with you on nds discord about all sorts of things related to this mission+modding in general.

I am stuck. I picked up all sorts of access cards but not a single one is the 3 I need. to open all the important doors.
Even tho the audiologs point me into the direction of where the MED/SEC/ADM could be but visiting the places turns out not finding any of them. Okay convicts stole that chicks head for retina scanner... havent found a single clue where they could have gone. I miss a few weapons for which I already picked up tons of ammo too, maybe they come later.

Will continue playing another time and hopefully find them.

Ive seen many amazing level design ideas you put into this that made my level designer heart go awe! Serious thought went into making the maps. Good job! Still I find that there is too many elevators which makes navigating the place more complicated than it should be.
