SS2 won'r start from FM selector

I can't run SS2 from the FM selector. It extracts FMs from the "FMsArchived" folder into the "FMs" folder without a problem, but when I click "Play FM", "Start FM", or even "Skip FM", it quits the FM selector window, but the game doesn't start.

I tried the CD version and the GOG version of the game on Windows 11, updated with SS2Tool v.6.1.1.8 in perfect mode. With some mods and without mods, same result.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Maybe some security issue in Windows 11?

that is unusual, but a lot of people are running win11 nowadays and they don't seem to be having much trouble.

just to make sure, you can run the base game via ss2.exe, right? have you tried to run the fm shortcut in admin mode?

Yes, I am running the game via ss2.exe and I have tried admin mode. I really think it might by win 11 related, maybe some update, it worked fine earlier. Reinstalling the game didn't help. The game itself works fine, I am just not able to run it from fm selector.

try to get the shortcut out of the equation, edit cam_mod.ini, remove the semicolon from ;fm and start the game using ss2.exe (that edit will make FMsel start always when you run the exe, no need for the shortcut).

and tried to reboot the computer? people seem to forget this is a thing these days.

OK, I tried that, no luck. FM selector starts, but when I click the "Skip FM" button, the FM selector window closes, the game doesn't start.

I will let you know, if I ever figure out, why the FM selector didn't work on my PC.
