AFAIK since it's owned by Tencent now, System Shock 3 is basically dead in the water.

Even if something does release, with the modern gaming landscape being how it is, investors desperate to cash in on any IP for a quick buck, and games going for mass appeal more and more, I would prefer no news.

If SS3 was to exist, I have no doubt it would be an extremely diluted action game that lacks a fundamental understanding of both of it's predecessors. SS2 built on the gameplay of SS1 in meaningful ways, and I have no doubt a potential SS3 would go in a completely different direction and, at best, would end up as Space-Bioshock, and at worst, would be some kind of handholdey cutscene-driven scifi game wearing the skin of System Shock.

I know a lot of people hate the SS1 remake, and it certainly has some problems, but I'm open to an SS2 remake. I just hope they learn from the SS1 remake. NightDive has more credibility than Tencent at least.

Almost no news. This does at least show that there is some link, however tenuous, between NDS and System Shock 3, and that there is a chance (albeit wafer thin) that work could commence/recommence on System Shock 3 in the near future. Though I too fear that if SS3 was released, it would be dumbed down for the masses, with everything spelt out for you, cut-scene or scripted sequence heavy (if the latter then it would be one of those games where, when you replay it, it feels like you're just going from set piece to set piece to set piece, with a couple of minutes of game-play between them), and just a simple, overall blah game where even the atmosphere and menace of Shodan and her devious plans are missing.

And if it's NDS who make SS3, then it will ship with serious bugs, some of which will never be patched out. Please prove me wrong, NDS, please.

And I notice that that article lists the upcoming System Shock 2 remaster for quote "PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S". I really hope that they haven't cancelled the PS4 and XBox One versions.

Part of me is always hoping for a sequel to Prey (2017), but I can't see that ever happening. One of the few things Prey (2017) lacked was a single, strong enemy for you to focus on, and Shodan would have been great for that.

While not perfect and existing fans can be more critical, what success it did have could lead to other System Shock content in the future. We’re seeing this with the SS2 Remaster and from there well we’ll see.

Both the Xbox and PlayStation store list PS4 and Xbox One compatibility, respectively. What's more, NDS have yet to release anything exclusively for the current generation of consoles, and that's not about to change with this of all things. You've nothing to worry about there.

Firstly, I'm pretty certain no data has been (publicly) released for you determine if the remake was "commercially successful", so I've no idea where you're basing this claim from. Secondly, the System Shock 2 remaster was planned and in production alongside the remake in tandem, as you well know, and was going to release regardless of whatever success the remake brought. The reception of the remake had (has) no bearing on SS2's remaster whatsoever. And that's to say nothing of the pre-order incentives for the remake which included the SS2 remaster as another obligation they need to fulfill.

Having played the remake. For me, I'd never play it again. Its alright but too buggy, the physics makes me feel like I'm playing a fan mod, and I didnt at all like the change to the vibe (it doesn't feel cyberpunk) and the changes to several of the characters (eg Diego).

I got the strong feeling throughout like Night Dive was unsure of whether to go with a 1 to 1 remake, or to completely redo everything. Hence why some levels are nearly identical in look, while others are quite different. Other than the Executive level, the music completely sucked also (when there actually is any).

In comparison I would happily go and play my hundredth or so play through of the original. Despite not being as good graphically and having clunky controls, its far better for the sum of its parts

Review scores combined with what figures are out there and general "casual" talks on the game. So part of that claim goes off of estimates, but it isn't out of nowhere

I agree aside from Executive the music sucked, if you can call it music. I also prefer the original, as for how the remake played I had no major issues with bugs, the only things of note I noticed were how things were designed. Also I will add that I am unsure of why some things were changed and others were note. Like what was the criteria for changes?
