Tempting, but what kind of "free" download is this? "Free" with ads and spywares included? Because afaik, DX isn't an abandonware and this sounds too good to be true.

That's not quite true. I tried to install it (despite having DX on CD) but I came to a halt when I would have had to install windows media player (9) for the gametap software to run. I guess for most people that's not a problem since they have WM sitting somewhere on their HD anyway, even if they're not using it, but I had just removed the crap and wasn't in the mood to install it again.

Gametap is a well known site, you probably won't get spyware from them. Can't say anything about ads, it seems likely you'll get some ads within their program.

Okay, it's not worth it. Apparently, the problem with GameTap is that you can only access the downloaded games from the GT download manager. This means no patch and no mod. And forget about having the games prepatched (i.e. Fallout).

Well this sucks obviously. I wonder what gametap is thinking... I for one would at least want to try the DX HDTP mod.
