So I almost played throught the whole game, and can say that this is simply SS2 with better visuals and some new ideas.Even the model of the ship is similar to VB.And there's an alien around the ship.

Any links??
Because googling only shows Star Trek: Deep Space 9...

Blasphemy! Just kidding but SS2 actually is in another league. I am not very far into Dead Space but it's obviously very, very linear and the story so far seems not very complex or original. It's true, the devs obviously took several elements right out of SS and mixed them up with elements from Alien, Doom 3 and others. That's not a complaint because they did it quite well and they also threw in some good ideas of their own (like the interface for example) but apart from the shop / workbench-bits, it's almost exclusively a linear over-the-shoulder-action game. I play the PC-version and I have to say that I am once again very disappointed about the overall quality of this port: the keys have been mapped in an uncomortable way, aiming via mouse feels horribly laggy (also true for the menu screens) and although there is an option to turn on/off Anti-Aliasing (no way to change the amount), the graphics still look very aliased. Not even the beautiful lighting and the superb sound can save it from looking and feeling like a bad console port. I really don't understand how this version was able to score so high in most reviews.

It seems like a good and surprisingly gory console action-title with a nice but unoriginal atmosphere - not more not less. I can't recommend the PC-version though.

Aside from the setting, in space, it seems like it has a lot more in common with Doom 3, with the religious undertones and what-not. In all honesty, it doesn't seem that deep from what I've seen (or that scary), but its different, and it looks fun/badass. Other than that, they use "fuck" way more than what is needed and it gets annoying fast. But I like the whole "Hey this thing looks religious, lets strap it on" type mentality.

Its similar to SS2 in that it does take some notes from Alien in terms of design, and the "cryptic words in blood".

With no demo, and aside from that its from EA, can anyone give any info on if its good on its own right?

I don't remember either SS1 or SS2 to have a very complex or original story.

SS1: Evil AI SHODAN wants to destroy the Earth, cool good-hearted Hacker comes to the rescue

SS2: Aliens + Star Trek + Marathon

And unfortunately, SS2 can be quite linear at times.

That's a bit like saying Life: Birth + Breathing + Death... But you are right, it wasn't extremely original. It's just that Dead Space is even less original and complex - and even more linear (all the time, so far). It's more obvious where the elements came from.

Whatever,I still think the game Is better than SS2,exept in modding. And I also like linearity.I get lost in TES.And you know what exactly you are supposed to do.Dead Space is also one of the few games I replay.

Linear? The story was linear (mostly), but I never felt like I was being led down a path, since the player had a lot of freedom to play the game how they wanted.

Unless I am missing what linear means in this case.
