And can it be done? Sort of like the Gmod sandbox for Half Life 2.

It sounds hard, but it seems like it could be a bit fun too.

Just be able to spawn monsters and kill them, shoot the crap out of each other (make it multi-player with UDP packet sending? Direct play over the internet and no IP addresses? Or has this been done already?) or have them fight each other (of course by making their AI selection possible, but sounds even harder), etc.

It sounds like a lot of work for a mod. Could anybody be up to this?

Certainly not me. I'm not into making that kind of stuff (yet? Who knows...). But I can definitely tell this is easier said then done.

I think gmod does gmod better.

At least we could check out on conversions and game content stability.

That's what I'm saying.

We could try things out like stability and see how it fares.

If a mod like Garry's Mod was made by a regular person, why can't we do the same thing? It's become apparent that SS3 is not coming. So far, I can tell it's not.

But we could help keep it fresh with a sandbox.

That would apply for the "cosmetical changes" since a Sandbox would be very much tied to its .gam file and basic ruleset of the used SS2.

Every change to this would result in a rework for the whole Sandbox. Like you had to alter the .mis with any new scripts.

But would be great for Texturemodders to check out their creations life.

Source is a totally different beast. The Dark Engine is much more complicated. This is coming from someone who has made maps for both, mind you.

But, if you're serious about this, I'm totally in.
