The email sound, specifically. I've been wanting to making it my text ringtone for awhile since all the ones preloaded on my phone are abrasive or annoying, and I want to bolster my obscure nerdcred. I've looked all about for something to do it with but so far I've only found that program that extracts the logs and barks, which I couldn't even figure out how to use anyway.

The file is stored in DIGIFX.RES, use ss_xtrac to get it. The extracted filename will be 125.wav

I use the version from SS2, since it's higher quality.

You're my heroes. I briefly thought about making the TriOp16 my text and the SS1 email my phone ringer, but I don't think I want to overdo the System Shock sounds. Besides, the SS2 sound really only plays when you open ChemLogs if I remember correctly.

Okay, whenever I use ss_xtrac with the two res files in the folder, I just get a CMDPrompt window pop up for about half a second before closing, and then nothing. I can't really imagine what I'm doing wrong here after looking at the Readme about 10 times. I'm running Vista32.

They're command-line programs, run them from the command line.  You need to give an input filename IIRC.

The way to nerdcred is paved with command line utilities, you know.

Aha, got it. Thanks again for the help. I was actually looking for the boop-boop sound (133.wav), but I've them all now so it's all good. I actually never noticed that one chime is used in both games. I guess my nerdcred is falling fast through the floorboards.
