I'm having an odd problem with SS2 where it crashes on level changes.

Starting a new game works fine, but after the third 'mission' completes and the level load finishes for the first VB level, the game just crashes.
I tested with another save and found that going between other levels also caused the same crash.

The SS2 exe I have has been patched with the Kolya SS2Tool, with all patches/fixes selected. There are no mods installed and ingame cinematics are working fine (if launched as Administrator). Running without admin privileges doesn't seem to make much difference apart from absence of cinematics.

The system I have is a laptop running Win 7 32 bit, an Intel P8400 processor, Nvidia 9200M 256MB graphics and 3GB of system memory.

Any help would be appreciated - I've googled for similar problems being posted in the past but nothing seems to match.

Make sure that you have a folder named "Current" in your SS2 folder.  It can be empty.

'Current' folder definitely was present :/

Also, found that SS2 is autosaving the game on the new level before it crashes - the save works fine, but I'd still prefer to try and stop this crash happening in the first place.

Seems I've solved this problem now - turning off hardware acceleration for sound fixes the crash.

The path to the game's installation folder (plus the filename of the file it is trying to access) is too long (it exceeds the 80-character path buffer).

Install the game to a shorter path.

"C:\Games\System Shock 2" is recommended.

You'd think this sounds dire, but one of their sysadmin guys shrugged it off like it was nothing.
