Ok, so I started playing Shock 2 again now that I've finally gotten it running on my new computer (Yay!) as some of you have possibly noticed. xD I'd intended to go through this playthrough of the game as a Marine grunt specializing in heavy weapons, but as I progressed I discovered something to my dismay -- Heavy weapon ammo is inordinately rare.

There is tons and tons and tons of standard weapon ammo laying around and spawning in defeated enemies, I almost felt obligated to learn shotguns just to burn it up, but I'm lucky if I find maybe 6-9 various grenades on any level (just reached ops), and I've found nothing for the other heavies. On top of that, I figured I could probably just buy all the ammo I need but grenades are bloody EXPENSIVE. D: And I don't even want to think about the prices on stasis or fusion ammo :(

So, the point I'm trying to get to (in a somewhat roundabout way) is this: Is there, or can someone make, a mod for the game that makes heavy weapons ammo more prevalent than it is, so that my chosen career path is a bit more viable? Perhaps reducing the amount of pistol and shotgun ammo while you're at it, just to balance it out, but that's optional and probably unnecessary.

You DO know about the Recycler, yes?

Yes but it only recycles so much. That's not the issue anyways.

That's possibly a tad bit too special. Try going as a grunt with a preference for heavy weapons. :)

The thing is that heavy weapons are very powerful and hence ammo is scarce until the later levels, where it isn't exactly abundant either. If you went straight heavy weapons, this just means you'd have to do lots and lots of wrenching. But even a heavy weapons specialist wouldn't attack enemies with a blunt object when there are other means available.

Or mix things up: Mr. Heavy could develop an interest in the technology onboard the ship, and start trying to hack it. The entropic gas released by the Many could induce visions in the otherwise very rational and sober Mr. Heavy and now his mind reaches out to do his bidding in ways he didn't think possible (psi).

Yes, it is the issue. You can recycle all the non-heavy ammo you find into nanites, then use those nanites to buy heavy ammo at the replicators.

And as noted above, trying to go heavy-only is a bit dim. If you choose to roleplay a near-suicidal character, don't be surprised that it turns out to be kind of hard!

Didn't TNT once play a game as heavy weapons only?  I don't remember if she allowed herself the wrench, though.  There might be a thread about it at TTLG.

Sheesh, just cheat and give yourself however much ammo you think you deserve.  Clearly you're not trying to challenge yourself so might as well summon_obj fusion cannon in med/sci so you can live out your fantasies of blowing yourself up every few minutes.

Eh?

In other news, I can't find a thread devoted to it, but it was mentioned in a couple of places, like here.

Thanks for the advice Kolya, I'll keep it in mind when I try it, and on a closer look there does seem to be plenty of prism ammo in the game, it's just grenades that are in short supply.

However, at Zylon and Merc all I can say is if all you can do is insult someone for asking a question, don't say anything. I don't appreciate how there always seems to be someone who just has to flame me for making a request or asking for info on a forum, and frankly it's quite a rude way to treat someone who's just arrived here. Everyone plays the game differently, if they have fun playing it differently than you then you have no right to insult them for wanting to do so.

Nothing wrong with your logic, however you would do well to understand one basic truth:

It's much easier to change the way you react to people than it is to change those people.  Being tolerant of people's varying personalities is the only way to live harmoniously in a forum setting....or any other public setting for that matter.
