hey im having alot of trouble getting any mods to work. my game is mod ready as far as i can tell, and the mods show up in the manager but they just won't work! any help would be great.

That's not enough of a question to facilitate an answer.
What have you done to install the game and make it mod ready, eg have you followed the SS2 Tech FAQ?

And what seems to be the problem? Which mod did you try, what was the effect you expected, what did you get?

Since we're dealing with someone who can't even tell the difference between a thread title and a username, I suspect we're going to be in for a hell of a ride.

Same thing as last week, he posted in the Arcaniac mod thread, I split off the post and moved it here and hence had to give the child a name. So it's my fault. But I thought it was fitting.

to kolya about my modding issue

i couldn't find anywhere to buy this game so i had to download it. there was already an RES file with all the .crf's in it. a little strange, but convenient. i downloaded arcaniac graphics redux and arcaniac pulse rifle. i've also downloaded other one's but those are the only ones that show up in MM. i activated the mod and started the program but all that happens is it lags a little and then it's still the normal game. i've tried it over and over and approached it from multiple ways but since i fail@modding i know i'm just doing it wrong. btw i've modded some other games but for some reason this one's just difficult. if you need more info just let me know.

P.S. for some reason it wouldn't let post a response in the other thread

Hi Ben, it sounds like you got yourself a game there that someone's already fiddled with. I strongly suggest you get an unmodified game.
I'm sorry but I can't help you otherwise, because it's impossible for me to tell what changes the other person made.

i got it on rapid share so  i'll get in contact with the creator and see what he did

You will still need an unmodified game as a base, to install the latest patches and mods.

Try to at least find an .iso image to install from, not a packaged game install folder.

yeah when i downloaded it it came as an .iso. and kolya, it came with a way the patch on the side for me to install and i did so i have 2.3. i really don't know where i can get an unmodified version. any ideas?

I can't really understand what you mean there, can you clarify?
The iso already had the 2.3 patch on it?

Did you try skipping the installer and installing the game manually as described in the installation guide?  And then running the SS2Tool on it?

683dfe9b2de9bben2444

683dfe9b2deef
no i did the install. could that be my problem? anyway, along with the crack .exe there was an .exe for update 2.3, and i used the ss2tool, but i didn't "patch up" cause i had already done that with what the .iso file gave me

Try installing it manually, forget the crack and the patch, and just run the SS2Tool on it..

the problem with that is that a downloaded game won't work without the crack, cause it won't start up the disc. i'll try it, but i don't think it'll work

SS2Tool takes care of the CD check.

I'm pretty sure I know the version ben2444 got. It's also a popular torrent that contains an ISO file which includes "crack" and "patch" folders plus some other nonsense.
Otherwise it's a normal image of the original CD. The included "shock" folder is unmodified and works fine.
Ben2444 probably won't be back soon, unless he has some other problem.

Hey kolya i just remembered something. i got the ss2tool before but all i did was get mod ready. did that make the RES file with all the .crf's in it? wow i'm forgetful. i can't really do anything with it right now though because my mom freakin confiscated my laptop XD but i'm trying it on a different computer, and now i'm having trouble getting the GAME to run on that one. i'll give you more info in a bit but i gotta go right now.

you know what i just realized? i have no freakin idea how to mod anyway. what i've been doing is putting all the files into one folder then putiing it into the MODS folder. it shows up in the MM but they don't work. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!!!!!
683dfe9b2ece7
I'm certainly no expert on any of this but I think Mod Manager puts mods into the mods folder for you.  You need to open mod manager, click on file and add mods and then point it to the mod you want to add.  Before you do that make sure you change the extension of the zipped folder from .7z (or whatever) to .ss2mod.  Once the mod appears in mod manager activate it and you're good to go.

I think Mod Manager unzips the mods and then adds some files of it's own (files.dta, mod.ini) which it probably needs to make them work.  If you're manually just putting them in the mods folder maybe that's why they show up but don't work.

Just a guess.

Yes, you shouldn't be putting the mods into the MODS folder yourself. Do what xerkon said or, alternatively, after you change the extension to ss2mod, double-click on the file (making sure the mod manager is closed, first) and the mod will be added to the list automatically.

and how might i change the file extension?

Simply rename the file and change the part after the dot.

If file extensions are not visible, then you will need to enable them.  In any Windows Explorer window, go to the Tools menu and select "Folder Options".
Switch to the View tab.  There you will find an option labelled "Hide extensions for known file types".  Make sure that this option is unticked.

And don't forget to curse whatever moron at Microsoft decided to have that huge security risk as a default option in all versions of Windows.
(Just imagine how easily uninformed people might get fooled by an attachment named HarmlessFile.jpg.exe, when .exe is considered a known extension and hidden by default.)
