I tried to do that, but was unable to. Perhaps the roof of the console could be "solidified" as this looks like an outright bug to me (unless this part of the console is a hologram :P)

stand on the console with your head sticking through the "holo" part and you can jump towards the beam and pick up the items if you are quick enough

Is there still need of a german translation for the soon to arrive new version? I'd be happy to start work on one but with all the german users on this forum I assume(d) this has already been done.

No, it hasn't been done. What needs to be done is:
Take the German and English strings from a fresh install (+SS2Tool5 with Deutsch Patch).
Compare these English strings to the English strings in ADaoB and make according changes to the German strings.
Before starting to edit make sure to set "OEM 850" as character set in Notepad++ (See Main-Menu->Encoding->Character Sets->Western European). All special characters should show up correctly then in the editor and in the game.

Don't worry, I've figured out all of that by myself already, but I haven't started work because I assumed that the .strs would be changed in several places for the new version. If only minor corrections are applied in the new version it should be trivial to compare it to ADaoB 0.3 and make the necessary changes to the german translation.

One other question before I start and open a new thread: Should the normal german translation be updated to the "Neue deutsche Rechtschreibung" of 2004 and 2006?

I would recommend it. SS2 is a scifi game and just looks weird with the old spellings.
I don't know exactly what will end up in the next version of ADaoB. Voodoo47 might be able to say if there will be many changes that affect strings.

there are still some fixes that need to be implemented.

I know only about one string change - the standard weapon requirements were returned to their original values.

I was under the impression that an engine limitation prevented that from ever being a feature.

Do you mean that no meter how much you squeeze it, there's always something left inside? Or, sliding it on some edge works better than folding it?

Look at DarkPlaces engine example, which is a modification of Quake 1 engine. It adds real time world lighting/shadowing and what not, to the game from 1996. If there is source code available, there are really no limitations. The question is how much redesign would that feature require and whether it's worth it.

There's no legal source code available as far as I know.

But that's not really an anomaly, discrepancy, or bug; it just isn't a feature.

Well.... If you are skillfull enough you can get toothpaste back into the tube, or something else like mayonnaise or mustard. Thoose who like to play pranks know about it ;)

This involves using air to inflate the tube after getting everything out, then using a funnle, or a squeezething like mustard) to fill with.

Can be done relatively easy. It's just a hassle.

When searching Annelid eggs I have on a rare occasion actually found the pod organ inside an intact egg. If you take it and then destroy the egg, you end up with two organs from the same egg. This seems like a glitch to me. Would fixing this fall within the realm of this mod?

Huh, I never knew that ADaOB spawned egg contents when you destroyed them.

This seems like a bad feature, that entirely misses the point of challenging the player to search eggs without triggering them.
