Hi,

I'm playing SS2 for my second play-trough ever. Didn't have the mods around the first time! A very nice game with unique atmosphere! I had a very spooky feeling, when playing the game last night in the dark, watching the ghost sequences in the mess hall. Then a maintenance droid suprised me!

But, the thing is - I stumbled upon this annoying bug with the laser pistol which can corrupt save games (in a quite nasty way). Also, it might be caused by a mod - in which case, it could be fixed. Has anyone ever stumbled upon this? I tried to search for it but couldn't find anything similar (maybe I tried the wrong words).

The bug is, if one fires the laser pistol repeatedly while changing the fire mode from normal to overdrive - sometimes you get this blue (or blue+red) vertical column of laser beam, that just hovers in the air indefinitely (it's not quite easy to trigger, sometimes it won't trigger even when I try a dozen times, then it suddenly triggers by accident. Also, sometimes your character gets teleported somewhere off the map). At first I though - what the heck, a nice glitch. But the thing is - at least on a save game of mine - whenever a hybrid walks over this glitch, the game crashes.

So, if you get this glitch - don't save! Better load an earlier save, since if an enemy walks over the glitch, something nasty (as in crashing the game) might happen. I believe, if you (for example) leave the area via a bulkhead just as an enemy is about to walk over the glitch, will cause the game will crash every time you come back to the area - potentially causing your game to be in an unwinnable state, if re-visiting the area is imperative!

In my case, 50% of my saved games were already corrupted (since I didn't know the glitch was dangerous, and it didn't cause problems until then). Luckily I need to backtrack only a little.

Oh, by the way, I'm playing via wine (a 64bit wine btw!) on Linux (this probably does not matter, since the game seems to run without glitch otherwise), but the mods - those might matter! I'm currently having SHTUP, rebirth, ADaOB, TC weapons, Eldron Psi-AMP and the remixed Music installed by hand (since I couldn't get the mod manager to run correctly on Wine - it just hangs when repacking a mod, with a wine debugger starting message in the console, if started from one). Oh, and of course I used the tool. Everything was downloaded about 7 days ago, so I believe they are the most recent versions.

Also, if anyone is interested - I can provide some saved game files with the bug.

Hope this helps someone!

Wow, this just can't be repeated too much (although OT):

Quote by Zylonbane@TTLG:
There's some buried gold in the new cam_ext.cfg file. I found a "d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay" setting that lets you set the HUD overlay to any "virtual" resolution you want. So now you can set the game to modern resolutions without having to bust out a magnifying glass to read the HUD text.

I'm playing on 1980x1080, and the first thing I tried to look for was a way to scale to UI. Couldn't find any, and though I'd live with it (I have quite good eyesight, just need to squint a little at times). Good thing I found this halfway trough my play-trough than later!
