theres a more odd issue of some textures scaling improperly when texture size gets increased
Define "improperly".

Define "improperly".

The textures scales bigger than the assigned area it in... so the results are it shows the left portion of an enlarged 512 texture instead of the entire texture itself...

If a terrain texture is displaying too large, it's because you gave it an incorrect scale factor in the material file.

this may also be a map bug - at some places, the textures indeed have an incorrect scale/size defined. can be fixed quite easily (on the unstripped maps, anyway).

But in that case, the upscaled texture would appear in-game the same as the original texture, just higher-res.

Maybe someone should first explain what material files are. Xyztemz may not be aware of it.
You can find information about it in the doc folder and you can see how it's done by inspecting ACC's mod.

That's how Dark handles texture scale.  A 256x256 texture (for example) will be spread over twice the width and twice the height of a 128x128 texture.

You need to use a material file with the terrain_scale setting to make the engine treat your 256x256 texture as a 128x128 texture.

when looking on [almost any] enhanced texture, can no longer see the original "spirit" - the feelings are different. maybe because of new texture was created not by original texture artist(painter). i dont have any prejustice - it's what feelings are, not only in ss2. anyone else experienced?
the thing is - even if the new texture artist will keep himself from submitting something new, it's hardly possible practically not to submit desturbance to the original - it will express itself in any way - maybe gamma or hue or saturation change or other(in reality the sum of it). but in fact artists are often adding new slight details or even patterns - and that destroing the whole, especially when there are several different artists working on. from now i can see it's difficult to explain by words, but hope you will get the idea.

posting this because of possible option: search original texture artists(painters) and settle some kickstarter or paypal donation for them to repaint the whole in HD.

think the result will definitely worthy

please don't misunderstood me, i am valuing any artist effort, but also want to offer better option for the whole(ss2)

You're right that artists tend add their own interpretations when re-doing textures, be it due to a lack of skill ("I cannot get it look exactly like original, but so what, THIS LOOKS MUCH COOLER!") or because slavishly copying another work isn't their thing. I think the latter is much rarer, because it actually takes a lot of skill and attention. It's not boring or anything.
Regardless, mods like SHTUP and ACC's 400 show that it's quite possible to recreate the textures in a higher resolution. And Kickstarter isn't a solution for everything.

yes, there are always exceptions (workarounds :hacker: )
