I downloaded System Shock 2 from the-underdogs.info, decompressed the archive, run the decompresser and then the OggSetup (all things written in the readme file). They also said to install Dix, and so I did.
Well, then I patched the game using the tool.

As I press New Game, the program parks or crashes, unparking the program and without seeing the video, I played the first level, but at the end, if I try to enter one of the three doors, the game crashed again.

What should I do ? Should I download the game as a .iso from another site ? Is there a way to avoid videos ?

Please, help: I wanna play this game and I already wasted a day only trying to :nono:

Your version doesn't need to be patched. After you did everything as described in HOTU's readme, you should check though, if you have a folder named "current" in your SS2 installation folder. If not, simply create one.

You should still be able to use the SS2 tool to make your game mod-ready. No guarantee for that but it should work.
You can avoid the videos by renaming the file LGVID.AX if you think that's necessary.
But I would instead try to re-register it. Issue this command at START->Run:
regsvr32 C:\Games\Sshock2\lgvid.ax  (adjust path if necessary)

Yeah, the tool works, I also used SHTUP and Rebirth Complemented with the mod manager and loaded your basketball save, and it worked perfectly

But i can't register the file: it says something like (I'm Italian, I have to translate) unable to find the model

Ok, renaming the file I had no crashes...any way to see the videos: I'm curious :)

I know lgvid.ax comes with the HOTU version so it should be there. You probably just need to change the path.
Possibly... Try to put the path in quotes. Like so:
regsvr32 "C:\Games\Sshock2\lgvid.ax"

Ok, I wrote exactly regsvr32 "C:\Programmi\GIOCHI\System Shock 2\LGVID.AX"

and here is the error message (in Italian though...)

There's a banner over the pic which makes it unreadable. :/
Imageshack have their own screenshot utility, I'd use that.

BTW, did you merge the CRFs with the SS2 Tool before you made the game mod ready?

I had the same problem with my laptop if I tried to play any videos that were not encoded in the standard codec. It would play the original videos (Indeo 5 format) fine, but any FMs that used videos encoded in another format (such as XviD) caused it to crash.
It seems to be caused by FFDShow. Uninstalling and reinstalling FFDShow seems to have made the problem go away.

Also, what operating system are you using?

OMG ! Sorry, I did't saw it...UNINSTALLED ! Now I'm using GrapClipSave (freeware) :p

I'm using Windows XP Sp2, and I have Dix 6.6 (yes a further update) installed...what is FFDShow ?

BTW Should I register your site ?
6750b057d3536
No need to register, although you are free to do so of course.
Well it seems regsvr32 still can't find the file. Check if lgvid.ax is there and check the path again.
If that doesn't help, you might want to try to install the game to a shorter path without spaces, eg C:\GIOCHI\Sshock2\

I'm off to work so it might take a while before I can answer again.

Better idea (maybe): Copy lgvid.ax to "C:" (root) then issue the apropiate register command again
regsvr32 C:\lgvid.ax

Ok, I registered it using the "": I may have typed some errors before...but the game still crashes without showing videos :dropsdead:

BTW, did you merge the CRFs with the SS2 Tool before you made the game mod ready?
I can't understand what you mean: I put all ticks on the SS2 Tool (also the patch one :worried:) but I didn't applied any other software before. I installed the Mod Manager after patching.

Uninstalling and reinstalling FFDShow seems to have made the problem go away.
I don't have any program called FFDShow...is it embedded in the DivX Player ? I unistalled and reinstalled DivX, no changes.

Maybe there is a site where a can see the videos without playing the game (cause I can play the game without seeing the videos )

Try to play the cutscenes in some video player. They are in the folder cutscenes. Does that work?

I'd suggest Credits.avi so that you don't ruin the story (since one of the CS ones is the ending video).

Yes, I used VLC Player, and I saw them: thanks :)
6750b057d3aa3
Yeah, while VLC player with it's integrated own codecs is a great player it wasn't really helpful in this case as I meant to find out if the installed codec works on your system properly. Ah, anyway. :)
