How do you "constantly" triple backup everything?  Do you have 3 hdds writing at the same time?

Some people rely on triple security. I just rely on triple sec.

local hdd, external hdd, cloud (ok, so that's a double backup, with triple instances of everything important). not backing up everything of course, just the critical stuff. takes five minutes every odd day, but it would take a nuclear armageddon to take everything down at once. I had too many people crawl to my doorstep with crashed drives offering money/daughters/sisters to risk anything less.

I wonder how SCP is coming along.

Well, was going to put in some serious time on the last few SCP fixes tonight... and the power goes out on the entire street. Sigh. It's very dark here right now.
see the "last few" part.

Of course, in my head, a single "thing" might be "upgrade every steam particle system in the game".

most of them should be already updated.

I know. I was just using that as an example.

This has probably already been asked but...who all are working on the SCP? Just curious. :)

the ADaoB -> SCP conversion is the work of three people, with some 2-3 more providing advice.

Well, I actually wanted specific user-names but that is okay too I guess. Thanks vood. :)

all of the contributors are long-time members and modders on this forum. they will be credited in the SCP readme, unless they'll wish to remain anonymous.

The trick is to only work on it in short, controlled bursts.

Just in case any xenomorphs are hiding somewhere in it. :sly:

Speaking of (un)favorite decks, for the Shock Community Patch there has been some thought given to slightly toning down the respawning in Engineering, so there isn't that constant stream of hybrids and droids in the main corridor. Would that be a popular or unpopular change?
673fb34e97dd8
Just leave it as it is, there is no bug to fix there.

It's not called the corridor of doom for nothing. Hybrids really spawn there like Tribbles and often even visibly behind an opening door. But without that, it wouldn't be that super tense part anymore.
As a mod author wanting to make this part better while keeping with the original design you're screwed. In my opinion the solution would be to half spawning but make up for the loss of danger by some other mechanic, eg a huge open hatch in the ground that you can only jump over with a speed hypo or with tremendous luck or by hacking the security to temporarily close the hatch.
I don't think there is a section like that anywhere else in SS2, so you wouldn't be destroying the evolutionary learning process of enemies, like adding a brainreaver would.

Regardless you'll never get that past the purists. And since there is no easy fix that would also be satisfactory I'd leave this section for a bonus addon.

It's a given that Marvin's going to hate SCP anyway, so... ehh.

IMHO, the tense part is the cargo bays themselves, where the respawning seems more reasonable. On the other hand, I've never seen anyone express anything but annoyance at the constant stream of respawns into the main corridor.

It should be possible to rig up some of the monster spawners to only exist on Hard or Impossible difficulty. Hmmm.

that place, when compared to the rest of the level, seems to be out of balance for no particular reason, so I see no problem in toning down the respawn slightly - whatever will make the out of the thin air spawning less obvious is good (in the ideal world, the player should never be witnessing the spawn).

also, why are we taking over this topic exactly?
