EDIT: Kolya get me one of those plox
On my way. Although I have to say for purely stylistic reasons I prefer the portable LASERs from AKIRA. They managed to make it clear right away that even though you can carry this thing around it will blow a hole through some meters of concrete.

The only thing that I know is that after ZylonBane's improvement, it does look better. Enough for me.

All this brouhaha and still no followup from AP explaining what he meant by a "visual upgrade" to the laser turrets.

Akira laser guns are beam-throwers. SS2 laser turrets are bolt-throwers.

This distinction only starts making sense once you have left sense firmly behind and entered into the land where “bolts of light“ exist happily next to psionic monkeys. :-)

Considering we're only talking about visual effects, I have no problem with this discussion. The SS2 turret bolts look pretty much identical to the blaster bolts in Star Wars. There's only so much you can do with that.
6740e0d24b271
I suppose making the bolts larger? IDK what the point is though. I still vote to keep it the same.

The only improvement I can think of, and it's a minor one, would be to further soften the edges of the bolts to give a better glowing effect. This would require a modeler to add more concentric shells to the bolt model.
6740e0d24b640
If you tell me what to do and the model name I could do it.

Hmm. There's a particular technique for this sort of thing, where you model one-sided concentric shells around the object with the normals facing inward, so they appear as an outline. Can you generate objects like that?
6740e0d24b8c1
So something like this.
Where the green is facing outwards and the blue is facing inwards?
Sure, it's easy

One could also create something similiar to the laser rapier where both is facing outwards but the outer shell is transparent.

I did something like this on the crystal shard too.

Star wars uses plasma, not lasers!!!

pew pew pew nobody cares. also, I think star wars blasters did use light.

Not that I'm that interested in Star Wars anymore, but I vaguely remember from somewhere long long ago in a galaxy far far...yeah anyway, I heard the blasters are a laser-based weapon, and the light sabers are a plasma-based weapon.

Interestingly enough, the light sabers are suppose to have internal mirrors that focus the plasma into a tube-like 'blade'. Which honestly doesn't make sense because I don't think you can focus plasma with mirrors. I don't buy the excuse 'science-fiction did it'.

Actually, I never liked the long beam from the laser pistol in ADaOB. If memory serves, scientists in reality have been trying to create a laser that can fire a 'bolt' rather than a beam...so who knows? I'd rather have the laser bolt. Besides, if the 'beam' is stopped at a certain point, maybe it would look like a bolt anyway? I'm not too up-to-date on some of this.

Oh, something that ironically I forgot about but shouldn't have, Zylon I'm not sure if the long beam was what caused this or not, but whenever I fired a laser pistol, especially in overcharge mode, the game had a bad habit of crashing a lot. Just thought I'd let you know in case you can figure out what might be causing it :) . ADaOB related maybe.

EDIT: Also, I don't remember about vanilla, been a while, but in ADaOB that part just before the Body of the Many when you are still on the Rickenbacker and SHODAN shows you the giant worm-like Body of the Many wrapped around the ship doesn't work. She talks, but nothing gets shown.

I don't think anything is supposed to be shown at that moment, but will check vanilla. also, the laser pistol has been reverted to the original state, so whatever problems was the ADaoB laspistol causing, they are gone now.

If it was the ADaOB changes to it causing it. It probably was, I don't remember having that problem in vanilla, but it has been so long since I played my last vanilla SS2 I don't remember exactly.

How does The Community feel about altering the teeth jumping puzzle in the BotM so that you can't get crushed by the upper teeth anymore?

Fun fact: In the editor they're called gizzards, not teeth.
6740e0d24c7f6
Outraged at the thought, but first we must know your reasons as they could be perfectly valid. :)

whatever makes the teeth puzzle less annoying and frustrating is good (with me).

Maybe just make them move a little bit slower, and/or make them bigger. Just so you don't fall to the bottom at least 20 times until you make it.
So you can look at it, get the sequence down and just do it.
This way only mindless jumpers get crushed.

I would try to make the jumping / mantling / standing up on the botttom teeth more reliable before considering anything else. That puzzle really is quite iconic.
