in pumpkin time. maybe.

no, seriously, it's one more update to the 400 mod, vurt's flora, and the fixed objects pack, run through the game once with SHTUP-ND active to make sure everything works as it should, and it's release time.

"in pumpkin time. maybe"

Oh really ? ? . . . . . Honestly ? ? ? ? . . . . . . . . Haven't we heard all this "coming soon" rhetoric repeated numerous times before, over the last year-and-a-half ? ? ? ? ? ? without satisfaction ! ! !

I'm sick and tired of having to replace my Shure V-15 Type IV turntable stylus due to its diamond tip getting detached/ripped out of place as a result of catching/snagging itself on fragments/pieces of your extended/ongoing "broken record", concerning the release of SCP Beta 1 ! ! !   :D  ;)

Rest assured, due to its complexity/integration into SS2, and compatibility with its many improvement mods, NONE of us expect SCP Beta 1 to be perfect, and hold its Devs accountable/responsible, should problems arise/exist. We ALL recognize that it's a BETA release. The community at large has been VERY anxious to get their hands on it for quite some time as an improvement in fixing basic long-term issues and the incorporation of improvements offered by New Dark v2.4x.

But there's another smaller community group equally interested in getting their hands on SCP Beta 1 in order to scrutinize, identify and report additional issues within SS2 in hopes of MINIMIZING the development window towards future SCP releases, eventually reaching its first non-beta release ASAP, but it ain't EVER goin' to happen until SCP Beta 1 is released.

Just git er done and out the door already, will ya ! The ongoing long-term delays are really becoming tiresome. Allow the community to do its part and allow us an opportunity to contribute towards improving SS2. You've done your work, now let us interested ones do ours.

Remember, the eyes of the many outweigh the eyes of the few, or the cross-eyed one.   :zen:   :oldman:   :D

Deepest apologies to the SS2 community concerning the extended delay in the release of SCP Beta 1. It's entirely my fault.  XD

I knew it was your fault.

But really, it should have been assumed from the start that the SCP was going to take a very long time to complete. SS2 is full of a lot of glaring bugs/inconsistencies/oversights in its original form. The fact that the majority of the work is being done by just Zylon and voodoo makes the progress they have made all the more impressive.

That is completely true, SCP will be a massive achievement for these two. But I don't think even Voodoo and ZB anticipated how long it would take.
At this point, shortly pre-release, some glimpses into the change log would be really nice.

I know they are trying to stick as close to vanilla as possible and that it is taking a while even then, but I still hope they take the time to fix things like the assault rifle being OP and the overhead damage of the Crystal Shard being bugged, etc. I don't think things like this were intended, and in keeping in line with Ad...AD...ADaoB I hope even if they don't intend to completely rework things that they will hopefully at least consider making some minor adjustments to things for the sake of fixes. There really are some glaring issues with many of the skills and weapons, and as I said, even if they don't do a complete workup of them, I hope they will at least tweak some things, the two I mentioned as an example.

I guess I'm just hoping that the SCP will be more like a refined ADaoB. :aii:

I guess I'm just mentioning this some more because I'm trying to be hopeful about it.

*sigh* Thinking about SS2 makes me wish more developers would get interested in making survival horror RPGs in the style of SS2.

I don't think the overhead damage was bugged, maybe you are referring to sharpshooter receiving the bonus value of lethal weapon? that has been fixed. also, yes to the rest.

one year ago, the very basic ADaOB -> SCP conversion was pretty much ready, but then we decided to go one level deeper, and bugs and weirdnesses just kept appearing while we were digging around. and one level became two, then three, then four.. etc.

2 Years of bug fixes? You know that's the same dev time as the original Shock 2 team right (of course)? I'm pretty sure you started SCP around the same time I started GMDX 2 years ago.

There's got to be more to SCP, more than bugs...has to. What are you hiding from us?

the official work has been started on january 2013 if memory serves, so we are not 2 years old just yet. a lot of that time had been spent on researching and learning - remember, I was starting up with pretty much zero Shocked knowledge, and I'm not exactly good at this, so it takes me quite a while until I get the hang of things. somewhat.

'nyway, you will be able to check upon things very soon, then you can decide whether it was worth the wait or not by yourself.

Vood overhead itself is not bugged I don't think, but one of the problems ADaoB had to address was a bug that caused overhead when combined with Crystal Shard to do far more damage than it is suppose to. I think it was a triple effect or something...wait I found it here again for easier ref...

http://shodan.wikia.com/wiki/Crystal_Shard

Bugs/GlitchesEdit

When performing a Smasher hit, the Crystal Shard will deal both the normal damage and the Smasher damage, for a total of 27 base damage points. Also, the bonus damage given by Strength will be counted twice. [1]

^Straight from the wiki. ADaoB fixed this bug. Please don't let it slip :cthulhu: .

EDIT: I think this means that the Crystal Shard with overhead does more damage against robots than the Laser Rapier with the same...which doesn't make sense.

the fix has certainly not been removed, so if ADaOB had it, so does SCP.

At least you had more knowledge than I did. For the first few months all I could do was load the levels and recommend coordinates to move things to. Then I figured I'd try my hand at doing some updates to medsci1, and it's been down the rabbit hole since then.

Being focused on the whole forum and managing it is pretty time consuming by itself considering you have to make it in your free time so no wonder it takes so long for both of them. It's a matter of focus.

From what I have been lucky to see and play SCP is just the old good SS2 with everything as is expected and supposed to be.. this time a lot nicer, more immersive, great lighting job, feels just right now, the atmosphere even deeper than in vanilla. Not something you should be anxious about as there are no surprises waiting (or are they?)

Take it as one day you will have the chance to play good old SS2 in its full glory.

There's not much to manage as a moderator. It's quite the little self-governing democracy here.
